New trend asking sitters to pay for utilities

On a wholly unrelated topic we are really liking @PPP-Cuddler as a forum handle. #feelsfriendly :raised_hands:t3:

This is what I am talking about.

I say that on a trading site, you are now operating in the context of bartering and trading; typically a democratic system of commerce. In this case, equal time is the easiest trade and the foundation is trust.

I like to deal in trust because money is liquid and it evaporates but trust is essential to personal and financial success.

Spain may have an underlying problem with trust and there is violence too? My goodness, there is no procedural law other than strong men? Clearly this story about Spain is a cautionary tale.

Thanks Pietkuip for sharing. It is truly eye opening. Makes me feel a bit more comforted paying huge taxes to live in the security of California.

I may need to quit the calamari eating now.

Hi Cuttlefish,
Thanks for the Love.
The third P is a variable (Plants or People). Should I add a 4th P?
LOL!~

There is a housing shortage in some areas in Spain. Or housing has gotten too expensive for many people, because of gentrification and tourism.

Some people (for example wealthy foreigners) buy houses that are empty most of the time. Sometimes all the time.

So then you get squatting. And the courts have ruled that article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (the right to respect for one’s private and family life) protects squatters.

It is a complex problem. Squatting was a big phenomenon in many European countries but in most places it is suppressed now. Except for Spain.

I look past any sits that request utilities or any rent sharing. Of course, I’m still relatively new and doing regional sits but the utilities will be on whether you are there or not. I am hoping to upgrade my membership soon and I cannot imagine asking anyone to pay utilities or rent (or restricting them from any food in the house…squirrel!). I would be so thankful they are taking care of and loving my Rory, whom I would pay no less than $75 a day to board. There is really no equivalence, IMO.

It is also likely that you can get a month’s long ABNB for a reasonable cost and not have the responsibiity of a pet sit, even in desirable locations. Not that I don’t enjoy the pets, I love them…but I would not pay someone to take care of their pets and to me that’s what a utility/rent share would amount to. No matter how cute and cuddly the fur baby:-(

Just wow. :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: :unamused:

I can not believe people pay money . Imagine receiving a service a 24/7 service (!) and expect the sitter to pay utilities.its not that „ they are licks that they can stay there“ story provide a service and you don’t even pay a dime for it . So I think paying for the house to be „usable“ is crazy
