Thank you so much all! I ll revise the profile with your feedback soon, hoping to get first sit!
Hi Camilla
We are newbies too and everyone kindly offered some tips on my profile and application letters which made a big difference and I now have 4 sits booked without any previous reviews/references. Your application letter is really professional and beautifully written, I would just perhaps personalise it a bit more and make it a little more casual/friendly/conversational so that it feels warm and personal
I just completed my first local sit as a newbie (yay!) so in the very little experience I’ve had on this site, there are some things I didn’t see mentioned yet: in your application, make sure to show that you’ve read the post eg referencing the pet by name, point out something that seems important to them that you’ll pay attention to, etc. Also, sometimes the more “difficult sits” may work out better for you eg you’re working from home so can care for a pet that can’t be left alone for more than a couple of hours or caring for a pet that requires walking 3 times a day. I also offered to meet the HO beforehand (since it was local) to meet their pet and see their home.
Agree, your Pic #2 of you smiling with a cat should be your profile pic.
Perhaps not so many “travel pics” of yourselves? Put one at the end. Most pics should show you with the pets.
If you dont have other pics, consider going to a local dog park to play with small dogs you like. Get selfie pictures for your profile.
There are last minute sits in remote locations needing a car with low applications. The UK has +3000 sits, and +300 cats only. Travel there, change your location there, apply there. Good luck.
Thank you so much all for the feedbacks!! Really really appreciated, was a busy week but will post once I have updated the profile!!
When I first joined I typed up a pretty chatty style of profile, I do the same with my application message as well. I think sometimes less is more…
When applying for my first sit, I asked them to read my profile and see if they thought I would suit them, but would totally understand if they wanted to go with a person with reviews, but that I was needing my first one. My first house owner took pity on me and accepted me!
All the best with getting your first sit.
Excited to share we completed first sitting!! Finally! took a while but got it! I wish I would know before I could check out other sitters profiles from the browser so just sharing in case anyone is having challenges with first one!!
Hello & yeeha!! Great work @Camilla.Gioia - do you mean the sit was a challenge and you should have read previous sitters reviews first? If so, you can, you click on the icon on their profile on the app and read both sides. If it’s something else, please explain a bit more #awesomenewsonthesittho
Congratulations! And thanks for sharing it is always nice to hear back from original posters.
I was wondering, too. Then I thought maybe she found it helpful to see different examples of sitters profiles to improve her own. The tone of the post seems celebratory.
