I’ve applied for 2 sits recently that required flights. I fly quite a bit so normal for me. Upon applying I always check the costs of flights to know it’s within my budget. Due to the time 2 HO’s took to respond (over a month with one and over 3 weeks with another) my flight costs had more than doubled and no longer within my budget so I had to withdraw my applications.
So please respond in a timely manner to all applicants.
It’s certainly frustrating when HO’s don’t respond in a timely manner, and it’s often if you’re the 3rd or later applicant to apply. That’s why most of us give HO’s 3 days or so to respond, and if we haven’t heard back we just move on and keep applying to other sits. Waiting around for weeks for a HO to respond is not often fruitful, and if you haven’t heard back within a few days or they’ve left you on ‘read,’ you’re not likely to get the sit I’m afraid, or yes, travel prices increase and it’s no longer possible. In the end HO’s will (hopefully) learn that if they don’t respond within a timely manner they may lose applicants.
@richten1 Since majority of members aren’t on the forum - I think it would be reasonable to include this as part of your application.
Something along the lines of
“I’ve completed x no of overseas sits ( please see my profile and 5star reviews ) . I have researched the airfares for these dates , and I if I am chosen and confirmed as your sitter I will purchase the flight tickets immediately. Please be aware that a significant increase in airfare will mean that this sit no longer a viable option for me . Therefore if I don’t hear back from you within x days I may need to withdraw my application if airfares have risen significantly in the meantime “.
Thank you @Silversitters. Never had an issue in 2 years on THS but it seems I’ve hit rising air fares and slow to respond HOs.
