@mcbridesrus, glad you’ve seen. A few items in parody listing … e.g. platform 3/4 travelers … are simply entertainment. But we’ve come across a frightening number of listed items, or close variants, in our own experiences - actual housesits, actual video calls or actual listings. Gotta laugh.
We continue to believe that most people on THS are good, sensible, nice people. But there are exceptions. Mind boggles.
I feel cheated currently on a perfect sit. Everything described is correct , great welcome guide, hospitable home owners, clean and bright house with comfy beds and lovely shower. Two beautiful, well behaved , funny cats. Space in fridge , pantry and chest of drawers. Only negative is one of the cats likes to bring us gifts, thankfully dead so far (but we were warned about this possibility) . Long may it continue…….
@Aideen, that’s wonderful to hear and a fabulous way to be ‘cheated’.
Most of our housesits have been really great. Some have been off-the-charts spectacular. A subset have been educational experiences.
We’ve had multiple sits with gifts from outdoor cats. While bit uncomfortable then we did not consider a big deal. Most outdoor cats that we’ve looked after have been lovely.

Lol, sign me up, this sounds like a dream sit, lol…..
This was in an actual listing on THS for a house sit in Alaska, as I remember:
“Our adult children, and their friends, may stop by, unannounced, from time to time, and stay in the house indefinitely. Sitters need to provide them with food, booze and home cooked meals, anytime they ask, day and night. Sitters also need to clean up after them and do their laundry.”
Oh! And there were around 2 dozen or so sled dogs to watch, feed, exercise and clean after!

For any folks that deem OP contents as unimaginable … then THS Forum post today … “100 additional meat chickens and the pigs were not listed until I arrived and saw the additional animals” … oh boy

First time I’ve seen this thread. Very amusing. What I find even more amusing is that sitters still apply for such ridiculous posts with unreasonable demands. Then afterwards, the sitters post on the forum about having such a horrible sit! Oh, and then give a 5* review because they feel awkward telling the truth.
It’s mean and childish to make fun of hosts is my thoughts on this.
@Ondrej, thread intent was parody not mean. Sorry that you perceived it so.
From conversations with many pet parents, we believe that good pet parents cannot conceive of the craziness of bad pet parents. And likewise for housesitters. We believe that most THS members are good people with good intentions - but that there are exceptions, on both sides.
Some pet parents come to THS Forum and lament no applicants to their listing - often for good reason. And some housesitters detail dreadful experiences - sometimes for listings with multiple red flags (that perhaps warranted no applicants).
If a pet parent reads this parody thread and recognizes some aspects in their own listing then we’d hope that they take a beat and reflect. Housesitting is a no-cash fair trade by peer members. Some situations are best suited to paid professionals than volunteer housesitters.
I think mostly because of other threads when they show real listings by hosts and make fun of them. I don’t see hosts doing that to sitters except when they talk about problems.
I actually think this thread could be seen as educational for newer Hosts, especially those who are disappointed to get no applicants for their listings.
That is a positive outlook!

Just wanted to pop on and share my thoughts on this…
As long as posts and replies meet our guidelines, we’re ok, but we would step in if we saw any guideline breakages (which you all know by now!).
As for concerning real life listings, it’s super important that you report these to us directly using the report button, so that the team can take a look at them at the earliest opportunity.
