Past sit venues incorrect

I’ve just been scrolling through our past sits, lovely memories and great reviews but suddenly saw Dublin. We’ve never done a sit in Dublin. Then one in Zug. We’ve never been to Zug. I realised that what has happened is that the owners have moved to a different location so our Paris owners are now in Dublin and our Florence owners in Zug. Why does that bother me? Because if I found another sit in Paris or Florence and applied, the owners might think ‘Oh good, they know the city/area etc’ and we might be more likely to get the sit.

That has happened to me a few times now. It’s annoying. After the first time, I started listing the sit location at the start of my review. I might say “I had a wonderful time taking care of Fluffy in Paris.”

@Jane The reverse can also happen. You may have done a sit in some place where an owner of a current listing might not realize you’ve done a sit in the area before. I have a few sits where owners have moved and the original locations are far more interesting to me than where they currently live. I’d need to point this discrepancy out, if I were applying to an upcoming sit in the desired location.

@Jane, like @Snowbird then we’ve observed unexpected locations in our ‘past sits’ due to the pet parent moving location. THS ‘past sits’ shows current location of pet parents for whom you’ve completed sits - not the actual sit location.

It’s happened to me as well. It shows I did the sit in August in Arizona. I would never walk a dog in 100% weather. Now future PP will expect way too much from me, ha.

You can always note at the top of your review where you sat for X hosts. I do a similar thing on Amazon reviews, because some vendors frequently use the same listing and swap out the products, potentially tricking customers.

In the case of THS hosts, that’s because THS wrote code without accounting for hosts potentially moving or having more than one home. Given that THS’s code base is probably a nightmare, that could be hard to fix. And I doubt they’d prioritize it, since they’d consider it irrelevant to their business.

And now this has not factored into the new “sticker “ feature rolled out this week !!

The sticker might be drawing from the same code. Usually this type of info is stored in a data base(s). So if the data base is poorly architected, that can compound problems.

I am sure it is - most forum members could have predicted this outcome - that is if they had asked been beforehand

More money spent on coding that is not fit for purpose !!

Unfortunately, THS is focused on squeezing out revenue ASAP, given its private equity ownership. And its decision-makers and product folks don’t use their own product (known as “eating their own dog food”), which is a common basic practice among good tech companies. So THS keeps compounding problems for users.

Hi @Jane

Thanks for sharing this.

I’ve escalated your feedback and also moved your post into the THS feedback category.

This issue has been brought up previously. It’s annoying that our sits aren’t accurate but it’s really annoying when you get invites based on having sat in the area previously when you actually haven’t ever been there.

We used similar language to describe THS 2FA implementation.

Think one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results :joy:

I think THS is now going a step further: they’re increasing doses of a medication that has proven ineffective or counterproductive. You said it: insanity

For what it’s worth, we were referring to our own seeming “insanity” in repeatedly raising functional ideas without observable impact. Slowly it seems  then we learn.

This has comes up on threads from time to time. Also if you sat someone’s cats, and then later they got a dog, it looks like you sat their dog.

Just wanted to add, the best/only workaround I’ve found is to assume that at a later date, hosts might change locations or change the number/type of pets, so I’d recommend that every review a sitter writes refers to both the location and the kind of pets and name of pets.
