Just wondering how the order of sitter listings is established. When I look at sitters in my town, there are over 1900 listed and there is no logical (to me) order - not alphabetical, not sits done, not star-“age”, etc. Plus, there are many who are not in the town but far (over 50 mi) away. Thanks.
Have a look at the filters to tinker with the search results a little
It’s difficult to be certain, but it seems like the profiles that have been reviewed most recently tend to show up first in the listing order. This might be a coincidence, but it’s the closest pattern I’ve noticed.
Added: Page source indicates profiles are sorted by indexed date
{“currentPage”:1,“itemsPerPage”:24,“totalItems”:124},“sort”:[{“indexed_date”:“desc”}],
The listings should be rotated, so you shouldn’t be able to discern a pattern. Why: to help distribute opportunities. Otherwise, if there were a fixed pattern, the sitters who’d regularly surface earliest would get the lion’s share of interest from hosts.
@toreishi I have wondered this myself and not been able to work out the order that sitters profiles appear.
Even when using the filter “experience “ it brings up a list of sitters that is jumbled up so first sitter has only 2 reviews , the next or 15 reviews and the next one with 2 reviews …next on 13 … so no logical order at all ?
The location search function seems quite useless too not only for the wide distance it brings up from the town that you live in but also because most sitters join for a travel experience not to do a local sit . So local sitters are the least likely to want to sit for you ( unless they are new with no reviews and want to start local to get some experience) .
You are best off asking THS for an explanation on the order

When I first created my profile and did a search of “sitters in my area” (no other criteria) right away to see how it’d show on the list, mine was the first one. However, a few days later, it was already further down.
I don’t know if this indicates that the listings are chronologically arranged (newest to oldest), or something else that I’m not aware about.
Not quite. It indicates that additional pages were indexed after yours, either because new pages were published or existing pages were updated—whether by the sitters themselves or by hosts publishing a review.
