Im looking for the perfect sit. Can’t go to Europe (Schengen rules), can’t afford a trip to the UK, so looking in the US or Central America. I did have a sit line up in the Azores, but I would have been in Schengen 115 days, so had to decline it - unfortunately. I’m watching for cats in a big city for at least a week, preferably Dec 20ish - Jan 5th-ish.

We’re pretty laidback @BonnyinBrighton but you will start seeing Christmas sits in Oz from about August/Sept and they then ramp up. Whether they’re in Perth is another thing!! Just be patient and all should work out!

Is it the cost of a flight to UK? If so then get a Ferry from France to Jersey is one hour (a sit there ?) then the Ferry from Jersey to Portsmouth is 8 hours, a sit in Hampshire maybe and the whole thing much cheaper

Thanks Bonny, But I’m in Florida, US. Right now in December/January the lowest round-trip flights from here are about $900. Which isn’t bad, just more than i can justify for a 1-2 week trip.

I’ve just joined Aussiehousesitters and the Xmas sits have just started trickling in…I think Perth is a bit of a special case to be fair

I posted a sit need for the week before Christmas but have had no takers yet. I’m still hoping because I would like to take the trip. I realize it’s holiday for so many, but I’d love to have a sitter who would then spend the rest of the holiday with us. Not going to book my trip until I have s sitter though.

@BonnyinBrighton I think the person in question said they couldn’t go to Europe, but to get the ferry from France to Jersey, they would set off from Europe…. Great tip though

Hosts for a sit I just wrapped in Florida invited me to sit for them over the holidays, including welcoming my husband and father-in-law if I wanted. (We live across the country and my FIL, who was recently widowed, lives a few hours from the hosts.) I won’t be able to do that sit, but they said they’d run future sits past me before posting, because they were happy with how well we matched. Their dog is a sweetheart — gentle and easy to take care of — and they’re terrific hosts.

Booked a month long sit over the holidays months ago in New Mexico.
I’ll be Albuquerque in a beautiful home with two kitties, oops four kitties.
The desert speaks to me lately.

On the last 2 Christmas holidays we were sits on islands in the Mediterranean(Mallorca and Crete) so we switched it up this year and are heading to sit in Amsterdam. Our adult son is going to be able to join us for Christmas this year, so that was a condition on our search but they were more than happy to let us have him stay for a few days.
