Petsitter Insurance

THS provides insurance for cancellations, vets etc. my reading is that it does not cover things like accidental damage (Is this correct?). i would be grateful for any advice regarding any additional cover that is required for these kind of eventualities. recommendations and/ or clarifications would be gratefully received. Many thanks

The below link will show you what it includes. Whether you are a sitter or an owner, I would recommend you glance over BOTH of these, just so you have a clearer image from both aspects.

I say check out both, because you incorrectly think it doesn’t include accidental damage, so I think you have only glanced at it from a sitters side of things, whereas the owners insurance does cover it, because we BOTH have insurance via THS. Sitters and owners insurance cover very different things, because, for example it wouldn’t be a sitter that claimed accidental damage for an owners possessions, because it’s the owners belongings, so it’s the owners insurance that covers it, and them that make a claim.

However, if it’s accidental damage linked to cat ripping clothes or a dog chewing footwear from sitters perspective, then you’re out of luck, that’s part and parcel of pet sitting.

I feel it’s worth pointing out that THS say that these plans are not insurance. I’ll be honest I’m not really sure what the distinction means, but there’s clearly something about them that they’re not allowed to call them insurance.

In the U.S. and probably many other countries, insurance is government regulated. That means they often require insurers and and insurance to meet all types of specifications, red tape and such. That’s probably why THS doesn’t call it insurance — it would be messy and super easy to run afoul of varying red tape for insurance and insurers. If I were them, I would likewise avoid calling it insurance, because it’s not worth the headaches, especially because THS operates in so many countries.

It also depends which country you’re in. In many European countries, it’s extremely common for people to take out their own personal liability insurance. In my country I would guess 95% of people have one, as the costs are quite minimal.
