Also, if you go to the AI powered chatbot and ask for a staff member, the bot will actually leave the chat and connect you to a real person to chat with instead.
@longlegs1 so glad you decl8ned this unscrupulous sitter. Itâs a huge red flag and against the THS rules. It should be reported to THS so they can let the sitter know not to ask for money.
Ah! My bad. In either case, places nearby where she can shop.
Frankie will also let you type a message if no one is available.
Hi Not new to THS but new to this forum page.
Some home owners have left us money to buy staple groceries if needed for us and the dogs. We did end up buying denta-sticks and oil and fly spray but I got the receipt and kept it with the change obviously those items stayed at the house. I donât see a problem with this but to ask for money for all their groceries is ridiculous. Glad you declined them and I hope you managed to report them.
I totally agree. Its my habit to leave money for my animals food, n petrol money for the use of my dog car.
I have reported her and declined the sit.
Thank you so much for the clarification.
Regards
Elsa
@longlegs1
It sounds like rejecting them is the only way to go. I would also report them to THS so they can explain that itâs not allowed and advise them not to do that again.
We sat for someone who had been constantly talking to the PS about making sure they have their tickets booked for months and at the last minute, they admitted they hadnât bought tickets yet, the price was very high and asked for help with the cost. That was clearly a scam. Whether inadvertent due to their negligence in planning ahead or intentionally done to wait until just before the sit to ask for money, itâs not allowed and canât be accepted in this community.

NEXT! The red flags are flying.
Oh I was going to offer that as a Thank you to anyone who came to look after my babies.

@Rishy if you want to leave a gift for your sitter to show appreciation thatâs a nice idea - nothing is expected and a sitter canât ask for payment .
We have had food left for us by hosts and we appreciated it .

This is very kind of you. I have encountered sits (including the one I am on just now) where the HO has offered to fill the fridge for my arrival and asked what kind of things I like to eat, for example. In this case, I said I would get my own groceries on the way but would appreciate some wholewheat pasta, so as to accept the kind offer while keeping it to a minimum.
I think the point of this thread is that money and food should never be asked for by a sitter, which I agree with wholeheartedly. However, if food is offered, I see no reason not to graciously accept, with the caveat that it is not required of the home owner and is at their discretion.
I think it is a token of appreciation for looking after my house and dogs
She sounds like a hustler. Please report her.
I could maybe understand transportation help if you lived someplace really obscure but based on what youâve described? Nope
I think when people are talking about cash gifts it gets a little weird. While some sitters may be sitting to save money, many are doing fine and might feel a little strange about getting a tip. If you think of it more as hospitality and comfort for your guests and offer a full fridge with their shopping list paid by you, or a gift certificate to your favorite local restaurant, etc, that might be a better way to say thank you than cash.
