Just thought I’d share this information so we are all aware of these dangers to cats and dogs in our care.

:100:%—THANK YOU!

:santa_claus:t2::mrs_claus:t2:I wanted to buy my host a Christmasy plant or flower last week. I stood there at Trader Joe’s (a grocery store) Googling—each and every seasonal plant was poisonous to pets!

Thank you! But a clarification on mushrooms - dogs can eat any mushroom that is edible to humans but they should be offered cooked not raw. Any mushroom inedible/ poisonous to humans are the same for dogs.

Fun fact: many mushrooms (specifically Lion’s Mane, Turkey Tail, Reiki, and Shitake) are believed / being studied for various health benefits to dogs (and humans!).

My dog enjoys some pureed mushrooms as a regular dietary supplement, and she is quite healthy!

Number 11 Will Shock You!

(It’s grapes/raisins)

I’m familiar with the items on this list being off-limits (not shocked by No. 11) and have always thought it crazy that anyone would give alcohol to a dog.

One item not on this list but worth mentioning: xylitol aka birch sugar. Often used as a sweetener (especially in many modern commercial peanut butters).

So if offering peanut butter to a dog, check the label first. In many areas you can purchase a natural peanut butter that has no xylitol/ birch sugar.

Anyone offering alcohol to pets is just a jerk.

The funny thing is, our dog eats more expensive (organic) peanut butter than we do.

I always joke that if we fed ourselves half as well we feed our dog, we’d live to be 120

Also anyone interested in healthy natural foods/lifestyles for pets, I recommend a book called The Forever Dog and it’s follow up, The Forever Dog Life. Lots of great info in there and all condensed into a user-friendly, easy to read format. The Forever Dog Life has lots of recipes for full balanced meals (complicated though, lots of ingredients) but also very simple, healthy treats that are easy to make. Definitely recommend.

And this is why we should just give pets proper pet food and pet treats, not feed them human food - except marmite on toast of course!

I love pets but share my marmite? Might NOT!
