this is all very concerning. i bought the premium mostly for the cancellation reimbursement with the lounge passes another desirable perk. I was not aware of the $1,500 limit. (I have sits that are 2 months long so that will not go very far.) Admittedly shame on me but it is difficult to get the T&C when you are just looking at joining THS, not even a member.
it should also cover things other than accommodations for instance a change fee on an airline ticket purchased to/from the sit.
Amparo, I don’t know how you have determined that the cancelation policy is meant to assist those in situ? It says it is for sits canceled prior to? Further I am an almost 100% traveling sitter as are lots of sitters on here. I do not have a “home” to stay at. I purchased the insurance to be part of my plan for unexpected occurrences such as a cancelled sit.
As far as the passes I had planned to use them in the case of an unexpected long delay in an airport. Not something planned ahead of time. ??? And seriously? Not to have a lounge in Chicago O’hare. That is ridiculous!
I very much appreciate you posting WheresBabz. I am now very much concerned about what might happen in the future.
Some of these comments do not make sense to me. A large part of the marketing is to offer sitters travel to new places including far away destinations that involve plane tickets that cost thousands of dollars. What are you supposed to do if you are stranded in a foreign country ie no family or friends or simple flight change to fall back on? Why would I use THS to only do sits within driving distance of my home?
We are clearly outliers here given the responses. I won’t be renewing at the top level. There is no point for the “perks” and customer care + THS don’t see it from our POV clearly. Money grab I don’t have to support. Many other apps available. I use them all as well as a list of regulars who call direct. I have priority pass worth it!
We’ve used ours for passes every year with no problem at all. Qatar, Istanbul and Bangkok. All excellent lounges and at least $60 pp to access otherwise. We claimed recently for a cancelled sit 3 days before start date and were successfully reimbursed within 14 days minus the $150 admin fee. Supplied THS HQ screenshots of travel, lack of sits, new accomm & host interaction and info. They keep us informed almost daily of progress. For flights we personally book the cheapest option (usually through Skyscanner or trip.com) as even if 1 in 10 cancel it’s cheaper than buying the flex option. When it has happened we’ve found new sits &/or filled the gaps with different travels. We supplement it with travel insurance from Safety Wing when on bigger trips which you can turn on & off by the month. We are full time sitters who work remotely and travel internationally if that helps. #worksforussofar
Yes you shared this before. Rebooking a sit w 3 days notice is not easy. And depends where you are for hotels within 20 miles. You’ve share this before in the string. We got it. Passes have not been available or useful for my travels. Don’t need to pay THS extra for the restrictions to file a claim. And this is a first cancellation in more than 5 years in a bad location. And clearly I’m not the only one unaware of restrictions or the lack of support.
Yes @WheresBabZ we did. This info & help was for a new member on the thread and platform called @TracyRo hence why it was addressed to her specifically earlier today when she asked some of her own questions. #alittlebitofhelpgoesalongway
thanks for the response. i might look into travel insurance i guess. it seems like it would be hard to find new sits in the same location that start almost immediately, etc. not to mention that just because you do luck out and find one doesn’t necessarily mean you will get the invite? anyway clearly i have a lot to learn. best
I’ll tell you I think cancellations don’t happen often but it is always a risk. Now that I know the “insurance” works won’t renew at that level. Please check carefully on travel insurance options. Some don’t cover travel with your “home” country. Or may not look at house pet sitting as something you can claim for. I can’t buy an annual travel policy because I spend more than 90 days outside of the US and had not ever considered using it inside the US (besides on a flight bought w the ticket). We just need to be prepared - credit card, back up, options. Again it happens rarely.
Oh, wow, they reimbursed you 1500 USD? Without the 150 USD of the commision to their partner examining your case? Or they admit you with 1500 USD, but gave you 1350 USD in total with the deduction?
Guys, do you know how exactly the covarage works for longer sits?
Do I understand properly, that you can claim for 1500 USD annually and maximum for 30 nights, for example (10 nights for 150 USD or 30 nights for 50 USD)?
But I cannot claim for 50 nights for 30 USD, am I right? (because the limit is 30 nights)
What if I my sits are longer than 30 days? I know that the coverage plan works only for the first three sits then. But: if my three sits would be cancelled: will I get a refund just for 30 days of the first cancelled sit with no possibility to claim again that year OR will I get a refund for three sits (30 days x 3 sits = 90 days and then 1500 USD x 3)? Do you know the proper rules for longer sits as I cannot find them even…
Dear @Amparo, so I’ve counted that you’ve already use 18 days of the refund. Do I understand properly, that you still have +12 days to be claimed ‘if something’? Is it a limit of 30 days annually to be claimed or if you will have longer sits than 30 days you have more days to claim if they would be cancelled? (Fingers crossed that it won’t happened, just asking, because you seem to be well-informed ). Thank you!
You are correct. These are the terms. And support I received was much less than how can we help you. More maybe we’ll pay, document everything, we don’t know if you’ll get reimbursed. Really on the negative than how can we help and this is how it works.
