It’s standard for new members (or members who’ve not used the forum for a stretch) to have their posts and comments screened first. That’s because of the forum software that THS subscribes to off the shelf. Such software typically has such safeguards built in, to avoid new users potentially spamming a forum to sell stuff, get back links, etc. The safeguards also exist to keep accounts that haven’t been used in awhile from being hacked for spamming.
My posts were screened for quite a long time. I think ten days or something? Or Maybe it felt really long. Don’t remember. It will pass. I do felt it kind of affected the experience at first, so I feel you. But it will pass.
I’m the same. Not quite sure why, as I’ve been a member for a while and my posts still go to pending, even though I’ve posted many of them and, as far as I’m aware, don’t swear throughout
@Fatamorgana - you’re currently a basic user (trust level 1), and my link above details how you can increase your trust level - these are set by Discourse who provide the Forum platform. Are you still having to wait for your posts to be approved and are you still unable to reply in the text box?
@CRU - the same advice above apples to you as you’re also a basic user (trust level 1).
@strawberryjen - if you’ve been away from the Forum for a while, your trust level does drop until you reach certain requirements again, but I’ve seen you posting a few times so I’m hoping you’ll be all good very soon!
@Garfield totally hear you - it must be frustrating when you’re so keen to interact with other members, and the majority of users are genuine, but we do find the trust level system really helpful for weeding out spammers and miscreants! Thanks for bearing with us.
I hope this helps everyone understand things a bit better, the team will always do our best to approve posts as fast as we can, and if the trust level requirements ever come up for review then we can take everyone’s comments on board.
The text in the link doesn’t mention that posts need to be approved by an admin. The restrictions for new users (Trust Level 0) relate to the number of topics, replies, images, and links they can post, but there is no mention of a requirement for posts to be manually approved by an admin.
I just wanted to let you all know that I’ve had a chat via DM with @Fatamorgana and they’ve made a good point about how the Trust Levels work.
There seems to be a discrepancy between the Discourse document information and the Trust Levels that I can view on the Forum. I need to investigate further, but I suspect the Discourse document is out of date as it’s from 2018.
It’s super important that everything’s aligned and that members know where they stand, so I’ll need to do some more digging about how we do that.
If anyone’s unsure of what’s happening with their Trust Level, please pop me a DM and I’ll look into it, and once I’ve got a better understanding of what’s going on with the Trust Levels I’ll make sure that our Forum member knows about it.
Thanks to those who have been so patient in waiting to get the “keys to the Forum”. It’s important we have safeguards in place, but equally we don’t want to be overly restrictive.
Your patience while I look into this is very much appreciated.
I’m not that bothered too much about needing approval for everything I post but can I switch off the email notification s that tell me my posts are approved.
Get sick of deleting every one.
