Responding to reviews

Hi everyone

My experience with Trusted Housesitters has been brilliant up until my last sit. I have only used TH four times but once was for almost 11 weeks. My first three sitters I had absolutely no problem giving 5 stars, they were fabulous. My last sitter was a bit of a nightmare.

I have spoken to TH about the experience and I am trying to decide whether to put in a formal complaint. I realised that the only way other users would know that the sitter was not up to scratch was to write an honest review, which I eventually did today. The sitter has responded accusing me of not being factual and I would like to be able to answer him. Is this actually possible or are his comments the end of the correspondence. There does not seem to be a way to respond to his comments. Has anyone else come across this?

Regards

Yes you can respond to the sitters review of you but not to their response to your review of them. (Or it would be a he says she says) Bear in mind that their response is also not on your profile so not such an issue. Advice would be to take a deep breath, wait a few days and then respond to their review factually, briefly and unemotionally. There’s no time limit unlike reviews themselves. Was their review of you good before they saw yours? #bemeasured

Hi

Thanks for your response.

Their review of me was good but unfortunately mine of them was not. They have responded to my bad review of them by replying with a lot of untruthful comments, most of which I can prove, starting with the fact I was away for 16 nights not 3 weeks.

I believed those comments would be available for anyone to see but I’m not given an opportunity to respond. I did notice he has one other bad review which he did respond to denying everything but I could see his denial which is what made me believe everyone could see it

Regards

That is the end. The only way is to respond privately. It goes…

You write your review of the sitter, they get to respond… the end.
The sitter writes their review of you, you get to respond… the end.

It is actually good it’s that way, just not on this occasion.

However, you still get to respond to their review of you if you haven’t done so, but only respond to what the sitter wrote in their review, nothing else, because their review of you, is on your profile, so it will put you in a negative light.

Also remember, the review you wrote is sitting on their profile, not yours, unless a future sitter wants to delve a little deeper and check out what you wrote about others, which they do on occasion if they want a bigger insight, but not when you’ve probably got really good reviews yourself, so a sitter possibly won’t feel the need to.

Then you might be better to leave it altogether and say nothing or you could write just a line or two saying “thank you for your truthful and kind review of your sit with us” and leave it at that. You can also file a complaint under a member dispute about the sitter if they’re that bad. It’s often better to just take the moral high ground and move on. #deepbreath

I wouldn’t worry about. The sitter left you a good review. If they are now contradicting their own review it reflects badly on them not you. Especially if they have another bad review and response.

I know it is not fair to have lies published about you. But if this individual is a bad sitter, they won’t be here for long and their reviews and responses will go away eventually.

Any intelligent sitter will see he left you a good review and when you didn’t leave him the same, his immaturity tells him to lash out. Don’t respond to him. If your other reviews are good and you gave the other sitters good reviews and this sitter has another bad review, your story will be the believable one. Don’t ruin that by going further with him about this.

Thank you all for your replies, you have certainly put it into perspective for me. I will leave well alone, thanks again for the advice.

Best wishes

Mandy
