Retrieve my data

I wrote two days ago to privacy@ etc. to ask all my data.
Aside from the fact that it could have been easier (a pdf form you have to fill and then send to an email address together with your documents: I have a pdf editor for work, but normal people - I guess - should print it, fill it and then scan it?!?), I received no answer.
Anyone else here got any experience? I want to cancel my membership, but only after this step.

Data requests in the UK must be no later than one calendar month, starting from the day they receive the request. If the organisation needs something from you to be able to deal with your request (eg ID documents), the time limit will begin once they have received this. I am not sure where you are based?

I am in Spain. And my membership ends in March.

The company are UK based so the month rule should apply. My renewal is February but I can’t cancel as I have sits until October. I will be submitting a data request then and removing Auto renewal.

Your location is irrelevant, what actually matters is where the data is stored. As that’s the UK a DSAR (Data Subject Access Request) needs to be submitted to THS. It is not necessary to use the form, this is simply a convenience for THS. A DSAR submitted by email is sufficient and legally binding. THS may ask for supporting documentation e.g. proof of ID and proof of address.

I hope they don’t wait until the very last moment to ask me something more (though I have no idea what they could ask, since I sent everything) so that the 30 days time starts again.

ā€œA Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) generally requires a response within one calendar month of receipt, but this can be extended by up to two months for complex requests, and the clock can pause if clarification or identity verification is needed from the requester. The deadline starts the day the request is received (even weekends/holidays) and ends on the corresponding date in the next month, or the next working day if the end date falls on a non-working day. ā€œ

Copied and pasted from Google’s AI.

Did you know that you can also request that all your account data is erased and made irrecoverable, once the DSAR has been completed?

Now I know, thank you. I’m not sure I want to do something so radical though. I want my reviews to be kept visible on my beloved sitters profiles. And, if by any chance after this first year something should chance I might reconsider and come back.

Update:
I wrote January 13th
January 20th I received an answer that said that my documents weren’t good (I sent my fiscal declaration to state I am really who I am and I live at this address). They told me to send a bill. Since I have only one (Internet) I sent that, together with our company details because we work home and the internet bill is in our company name.

I didn’t receive any answer about whether this information is good. Besides, I cannot send anything else because we have a well for the water and solar panels for electricity, so I don’t have any more provider.

I’m still waiting for an answer and I still suspect the Internet bill won’t be enough.

I can write onto a pdf on my phone- it’s fiddly but I do this all the time when filling in questionnaires (Pilates class asked for this!) there’s an option to type or write.

Update.

A few days ago after writing again I finally received the answers that my papers are fine and that the request will be passed to the administration people.

In the meanwhile I received the email notifying that my membership is expiring in one month.
So I wrote back again to ask how much time this will take because I want to be able to check if anything will be missing from the data they will send to me and obviously I cannot if my membership is expired.

Because from the beginning of the request, now, the first month is gone.

Im learning here…. what can you do with said data once they share it with you and you cancel your membership? thanks.

Wasn’t your DSAR submitted on January 13th? You posted this on the 15th ā€œI wrote two days ago to privacy@ etc. to ask all my dataā€. This would make today 20 days since you sent the original request. Organisations need to provide the data within one calendar month of the request, but the clock only starts when satisfactory documentation has been received. In your own case that was a little tricky because you don’t have a utility bill in your name, only the company name. That would have delayed the whole process as you are probably aware of.

I suspect that a DSAR with THS is pretty straightforward compared with many other organisations, so you may perhaps receive the data in good time to review it before your membership expires.

Update: after writing again this morning I finally received my data.
The package is made of a few csv files (a bit strange since it’s all text data) and they are missing some fundamental things: all the messages (I just received the last 60…) and all the photos. I asked about it, I’m waiting for an answer.

So this is the answer:

the photographic data is still contained within your active account, so you are able to access this at any time by logging in.

With regards to the messages, you will be able to see your older messages within the ā€˜Archive’ section. If you are using the website, when in the inbox you should see the option to select ā€˜Archive’.

If you are using the app, when in the inbox, you will need to pull down the screen and you will see ā€˜Archived messages’ appear.

Again, as your account is active, you will be able to access all of this information.

What kind of answer is that? They already sent me part of the data that are accessible on my account, but here the issue is having all my data packed instead of downloading each one of them individually. What does this answer mean by ā€œgo and save them by yourselfā€?

If you think THS hasn’t properly and fully complied with your DSAR you can make a complaint to the ICO (information Commissioner’s Office) at https://ico.org.uk/

More reply:

As part of your Subject Access Request, we’ve provided you with a copy of your personal data in a commonly used electronic format. Where personal data is already directly and securely accessible to you within your account (including messages, archived messages, and photos), UK GDPR allows us to fulfil the request by directing you to that data rather than duplicating it in a separate export.

The data you mention has not been withheld or restricted; it remains fully available to you in your account in the same form as it exists on our systems.

If there is any specific item of personal data that you believe you cannot access via your account, please let us know what it is and we’ll review this. Otherwise, we consider your Subject Access Request to have been fulfilled.

I don’t really understand what’s the difference between delivering me the first 60 messages and miss the others, and what should I do. Opening every single chat with every single user and copy every single message manually? What’s the difference? Feedbacks and reviews are still accessible too, but they send them to me in a .csv file.

Sorry this isn’t a reply to help you but a request for information as to what you have received from THS.
Have you received the reviews that you have been given for sits you have completed and also the profile that you created which home owners can see?
I am asking as I am about to submit a Subject Access Request Form to retrieve the data I have asked about above as I am unable to access my account due to my email not being recognised so I don’t get the 2FA code.

Incidentally I contacted "@privacy to ask which data I would receive as a result of completing the form and was told that I could access my reviews by logging into my account. This after me specifically telling them I could not access my account.
Like you I am cancelling my membership which expires in Sept but wish to have all my reviews etc so that I can start again on another platform which hopefully I can access without any problems.
