Revisit your sitters reviews

@Saoire I am trying to understand how could a sitter could write a review of you if they were not a confirmed sit ?

It was a different site than THS but still makes you wonder

A different site. Free and not so rule bound. I guess you get what you pay for (or not!)

Here’s what I don’t understand : Why would someone double book ? NOT that this would be OK , because it ISN’T but double booking a paid gig(s) I understand (from an immoral point of view) . But double booking without renumeration has absolutely NO benefits …unless I’m missing something ?

Maybe they took a sit and then found a better one.

It doesn’t make sense … unless … they confirmed a couple of short stays and then saw a long sit which they really wanted but overlapped with the already confirmed stays ?
Rather than cancel the short stays and risk complaints …they thought they could double book and somehow mange them all…

Here is an example. A couple booked a long 5 months sit without pets in a very remote, rural location with nothing to do around. Then they proceeded to book more overlapping sits in a better location but still within a few hours from the original sit. The original HO only became aware of the overlapping sits after the original sit ended.

Why such an unkind questioning.
She said she had plenty time yet to get a sitter. That’s why she could wait 3 weeks.
Just be more kind in questioning someones reasons.

@toreishi if a sitter was looking to stay in a certain location for a longer period of time… 2 overlapping sits in the same area would have been a way of accomplishing this.

Thank you, Lassie, for the clarification. So I have to upgrade my membership to be able to contact other sitters. I don’t think so.

If xou are a sitter you can never conract another sitter. Upgrading won’t make any different unless ofcourse you mean becoming a dual host/sitter member- then as a host you can contact any sitter…

@toreishi in the good old days (not so long ago!) Couples were able to split up for a night or two to complete/start 2 overlapping sits. I don’t consider that to be real double booking because it was done consciously to be able to take up consecutive (but overlapping) opportunities with the agreement of both hosts. This helped avoid gaps for full time sitters and it was a way of helping hosts who might not have other applicants. The reward fir the sitter was another 5* review.
Now sitters cannot even make contact with hosts to discuss date flexibility. Even a one day overlap blocks contact.

Re-real double booking. Imagine the scenario- you are a couple on a longer sit and you spot a local short sit within the dates you are already sitting. You notice nobody is applying yet you are nearby and could help. Your main sit is easily manageable for one and the other half can go and do the other short sit. Everyone would be happy and the sitter would get another 5* review. I see that as an entirely legitimate double booking- which used to be possible- but it is no longer possible with the new rules.
I believe any arrangement made responsibly should be allowed but THS has reduced our freedom greatly in this respect.

After a horrible sit in my home I canceled the same sitter that was going to come back days later and there was major push back from ths. I needed to cancel asap to find a new sitter but ths wouldn’t until the sitter confirmed on the site. I told ths I had been waiting on a reply from them for 5 days. When they finally let me cancel they erased the sit he had already done so I couldn’t leave a review warning others.

Sorry to hear about your situation- Usually it’s possible for a homeowner to unconfirm a sitter directly from their dashboard. Although you should still contact the sitter to advise them of what you are doing and why .Did THS advise you about the member dispute process ?

That’s exactly what I meant.

No I couldn’t I confirm him without a reply from him because ths said he needed to agree. I sent them screenshots of me telling the sitter why he wasn’t welcomed back and they finally let me remove him.

That sounds wrong that you couldn’t review his first sit @Penny1212 as it was complete. What was the THS reason for doing that? Future HOs are now at risk if so.

@Cuttlefish ths never explained why they removed his completed sit. I asked them to put it back up so I could review him because it was all inappropriate and they asked if I had made a police report which I hadn’t so I gave up at that point. He didn’t steal or tear up my house just the lack of communication,7 hours late, unknown guest the entire stay, broken items. What would the police do?

Sounds positively useless on their behalf. THS support is in dire need of more training! At least it’s behind you now @Penny1212 & your house & pets are safe.

@Penny1212 that sounds really innapriopriate for THS to remove a completed sit entirely so you cannot review it. If I was in your shoes I would get back on the case with THS - it could have been removed in error- a mix up because it was the same sitter? Who knows but it is worth following up- for everyones benefit. The sitter needs to be held accountable and you should be able to have your say so others can be made aware.
