I recently finished a lovely sit and the owner has asked me to look after the dogs again in the summer, but at a different house (his partner’s place in a nearby village). I’m probably up for it, and I would think that the partner’s house would be lovely (I met her briefly), but any suggestions for how I can tactfully ask about the house?
(I’m rather choosy these days, especially in summer, and don’t want to spent two summer weeks in a house that is less than wonderful!).
I don’t really want to say ‘sure, but only if the house is as big/lovely/well appointed/clean as your place!’
How about “That sounds lovely, thanks for the offer. Could your partner send me over some pics of the lounge, bedroom, bathroom etc so I can see the house please? Also a list of responsibilities would be helpful and then I can let you both know.” Gentle but informative and fair. #itsgoodtotalk
Thanks Cuttlefish, that’s pretty much what I had in my mind, but sometimes I’m terribly English, and feel some sense of arrogance in the suggestion that ‘yes..but only if the house is up to my standards!’
@cuttlefish is right, also simply ask for the full address, they’ll hand it over no problem considering you obviously have a good connection with one another. Then you can go on street view to check out the immediate area too.
That’s a good idea, but I know the village already - it’s tiny with few houses - but I’m more interested in how modern/tidy etc the house is on the inside.
There is another thing to consider (if this is going ahead as a THS sit ) , THS will likely say that the Public liability etc isn’t covered because it’s a different house to the one on the listing.
