I recently have had a very horrible experience with my recent pet sitters. I had a listing for a pet sitter to watch over my home and pets for 2 weeks but not even 48hrs into the pet sit she texts me with a bogus reason as to why she would be leaving. I was already thousands of miles away so having to find a local pet sitter last minute I was furious. She exaggerated everything within my apartment and said the air quality was so bad she had chest pains, which I find hard to believe as I have an air purifier and the filter was changed before her arrival. I also told her she could leave the air conditioner on throughout her stay to help her be more comfortable. She found every reason to be rude to me and act like I did something to her which she’s actually the one who inconvenienced me. She found other small, mediocre reasons to add to her case to why she demanded to leave. She didn’t apologize for leaving 5 days after the sit, which if the air quality was so poor that her health was being sacrificed I’m sure she would’ve had to leave days earlier, but that’s beyond the point. I’m sure with the holidays she just wanted to make an excuse to get out of our original agreement. Fine. Few days later, I get a call from the Humane Society and the woman on the phone is talking to me as if I am endangering my cat and she is going to come to my house to make sure my cat is okay! I was livid! Just because my cat is chubby you fear for my cats health so much to call pet care services?! I am aware of my pets health as I listed his diet on my profile and welcome guide that he is receiving a certain amount of food from his food dispenser that was suggested by my vet. Am I over exaggerating? How would you feel if a pet sitter was rude to you even though you’ve been nothing but nice and accommodating and then get a call from from the Humane Society because someone apparently called them giving away my address and perhaps images of my pet and whatever else? I could understand if I clearly abuse my cat and you were able to prove so, but this is where I draw the line. I feel extremely violated and uncomfortable in my own home after this event. What would you do or advise I do?

Thank you Jenny. For days I have been contacting the support team on THS. I’ve only received response back that if it is not an urgent event in which the pet sitter is still active that I couldn’t speak with anyone on the phone. Then when I used the chat bot to speak with a live agent they told me all I could do is leave a bad review. I had two pet sitter’s in my home and the entire experience with both was horrible. The first sitter who left early left the sheets and pillows pulled off thus adding stress to my second sitter to have to come in and wash the bed sheets and she ended up being late for work as a result. I sent her extra money to help assist with the laundry because I felt really bad. Things were not nicely in place the way I left it so this naturally put a bad first impression for the second sitter who I thought understood my situation after I told her what had happened, but she too ended up coming off just as nasty. I gave her a five star review immediately after the sit ended because I felt bad that I was already abroad and unable to clean up after the first sitter. Though, I realized later on my cat had absolutely no fresh water in his water fountain, there was clumps of her long blonde hair collecting in my shower drains that she ended up complaining about because the water wasn’t going down well that she included in the poor review she sent me, the toilet was left dirty and no toilet paper left when I arrived home, etc. I trusted both these women and they were rude to me and left my apartment in bad shape as if I did something purposefully wrong to them. I have 25+ completed pet sits with 5 star reviews on this site. I would never even think to treat someone the way they’ve treated me and my home. I’ve been sad, angry and upset since coming back home from my 2 week trip and the call from the Humane Society randomly today was my last straw and I feel violated. This is beyond absurd!
OMG what a nightmare i’m so sorry. After 25 good sits even! Can you help me understand the “air quality” situation? Is someone in your home a heavy smoker? If you are aware of an air quality issue in your home do you share that info on your Housesit profile? So frustrating. I am pretty new as a host, only have 5 house sits under the belt. this would be my worsts nightmare after leaving town. I’m glad THS answered you on this forum to try and help further.
