Tea or Coffee?

We just discovered this Rüdesheim Kaffee in Rüdesheim. It is particular to this town because it is made with a locally produced brandy, Asbach 8 year old. The sugar is caramelised in the burning brandy before the coffee is added. Absolutely delicious :yum:

Now that’s what I call a proper winter warmer!! Looks so delicious! :star_struck:

OMG, now that has dredged up a whole load of memories! Haven’t had Asbach in over 30 years! One to add to the list for when we hit Berlin in a few days. Thank you for that .

Hi @Samox24 - we are not great with taking photos generally. Regular comment from family and friends is where are the photos! The ones we do take are always pretty hit or miss and we have been fascinated by what we refer to as the insta folks with all the amazing poses! In the time it took for us to queue, sit, order and drink our very over priced coffees (30 minutes ish) a Japanese couple spent it taking a hundred photos! They were still there when we left  .

The New York Cafe in Budapest is without a doubt absolutely gorgeous and our badly taken photos do not do it justice. Live orchestra too!

My very dull black coffee is balanced by my OH ordering the ‘gold’ latte which turned out to be the café logo in gold dust on top. :joy:

Hi @Shannon ahh that’s okay, yes practice definitely makes perfect! :camera::sweat_smile: … and your photos are very good :+1:t2::slightly_smiling_face:

I have added a link for the New York Cafe in Budapest so others can take an look and we will definitely have to visit next time we are in Budapest!

Thank you for sharing :slightly_smiling_face:

I am a HUGE coffee fan, although coffee isn’t a fan of me, so I have to be quite careful about what caffeinated stuff I consume.

I have a load of free coffees behind the counter at my local bakery (a kickstarter reward from when I helped fund a new bit of baking equipment for them!) so I try to keep those for my coffee treat time. I think I’ve mentioned them before, they’re very pet friendly, mostly dogs but sometimes the neighbourhood cat pops in for a nap. You can see more about them here if you’re interested! Their pastries are heavenly!

@Jenny It all looks so delicious! :yum:

They’re honestly the best pastries I’ve had. I always buy a few things in one go, and pop extras in the freezer, so I can have a treat on hand

Happily getting a start in Edinburgh with tea and breakfast from room service.

I like all kinds of tea, but the water needs to be HOT, unless I’m drinking iced tea or boba tea.

There are a crazy number of small tea sellers in the U.S., where I live. I learned about them via Facebook tea groups. You can order normal servings, or in the case of many, buy sample packets. I currently probably have 60ish sample packets at home.

One of my favorite finds from afternoon tea in San Francisco was a chestnut tea.

I love my black teas super strong and usually use two or three times the amount of regular servings, depending on the tea. It depends on the balance of bitterness.

Caffeine in tea or coffee has zero effect on me, so I just drink for pleasure. To get a caffeine wake-up effect, I have to take caffeine pills, which I discovered in college. Otherwise, I can drink a pot of coffee and still doze off, LOL.

I occasionally drink coffee, black. But I don’t like it enough to make it. I usually just piggyback on my husband’s pot.

@Maggie8K the chestnut tea sounds nice, I will have to look for that next time i’m in San Francisco :teapot::slightly_smiling_face:

BTW, I found the cutest afternoon tea ornaments at Fortnum & Mason while I laid over at Heathrow yesterday.

If you drink or dine at the F&M counter at the airport (right by the F&M store), you can show your receipt and get 10 percent off purchases at the store.

I love afternoon tea, and my husband and I’ve collected Christmas tree ornaments over decades of travel, so the ornaments were apropos. When I was recently shopping online for F&M picnic hampers, the site didn’t include the ornaments, so I was glad to have visited the Heathrow store.

They also had an ornament modeled on their famous picnic hampers, but I didn’t opt for that one. It was just a little rattan basket with an F&M logo.

I tried the tea at Lovejoy’s and later ordered from their online store.

Thanks @Maggie8K :+1:t2::slightly_smiling_face:

They are super cute!

Enjoy Edinburgh, the Christmas markets are great!

I miss Jenners. Mum and I would have afternoon tea there (when it was still a Department Store) whenever we were on a shopping spree - to give us the energy for the second round .

Thanks, Shannon. I have afternoon tea booked: https://www.mackintoshatthewillow.com/.

When I was a kid, I’d go here for tea with my cousin in San Francisco: https://www.opentable.co.uk/the-rotunda-at-neiman-marcus. I still go sometimes when visiting the city.

The Willow is lovely too! Hopefully one day we get back to the states for some visits. We haven’t been to SF yet.

Right now my coffee is a very blahh railway fare but I am just grateful we are on the train as we caught it with 30 seconds to spare! The satnav on my phone was playing up and we took longer to get to the station than we should have!

When you realise that you are not as fit as you used to be :face_with_hand_over_mouth:. I have just about cooled down now!

Very glad you made your train! Safe travels! Totally hear you about feeling our ages. I lie around hotels more nowadays when I travel, LOL. I make sure I’m rested up vs. when I used to go, go, go.

@Maggie8K that looks scrumptious! I’m salivating! Did you eat everything?!! Sadly my husband only sees ‘calorie bomb’ !! so we’d never be able to enjoy that together- I’d have to find another partner in crime!!:joy::rofl:
As its Fortnum & Mason I see £££!!!- may I ask what it cost?

@Lokstar, I gobbled it up, LOL. My husband watches what he eats, too. But he doesn’t like to travel anywhere as much as I do, so I travel solo and love doing whatever I please.

Fortnum & Mason at Heathrow seemed reasonable to me — typical airport prices, but I had breakfast and they weren’t serving afternoon tea yet. If you mean the ornaments, they ran about 25£ each, which is typical with ornaments of such detail. Some generally cost more, but that’s about where I draw the line.
