The Earthquake In Turkey & Syria

The death toll from a strong earthquake in south-eastern Turkey, near Syria’s border, could rise eight-fold, the World Health Organisation has warned.

At this time our thoughts are with the families, victims, first responders and all those affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria

Absolutely tragic :disappointed_relieved: a friend i know from Alaska has been traveling there for 2 months, fortunately she’s in a region that’s not on the fault line and is safe. However, last month she was in the region that got hit hard. Prayers for all effected by this devastating tragedy

Such tragic news. My friend was traveling through Turkey last month, but luckily she left a few weeks ago. Praying for all of those affected by this devastating earthquake.

Thanks Karen! We were in this exact region for 10 days and stayed in two of the cities hit - such a huge tragedy, made worse somehow by having had such wonderful exchanges with the people of this region. It broke my heart to see this had happened and just a few weeks after we left. Very, very sad.

My son’s form teacher at school is from this part of Turkey. Initially she didn’t know if her family were safe. Thankfully they are. She has found it very upsetting seeing news reports.

And the tragedy continues to unfold. At least there was one bright beacon today as I learned they found a woman alive even after 90 hours. This is all just so heartbreaking.

My daughter is there now, family is safe but we haven’t heard from several friends in Adana and Khramanmaras. It is a mess.

@MelindaW We cannot even begin to imagine the pain of what you are going through. We are so very sorry, such inadequate words given the unimaginable devastation, thank goodness your daughter and family are safe.

Our thoughts are with you, your family and friends and everyone affected by this devastating earthquake.

Happy happy happy for man and cat!

So incredibly lucky, this dog has been found by a rescue team in Hatay, Turkey, 23 days after the devastating earthquakes shook the region.

Mexico’s army welcomed a new search puppy on Wednesday which was gifted from Turkey following the death of Proteo, the Mexican rescue dog who had been helping to find survivors of February’s massive earthquake near the Syrian border.

The 3-month-old German Shepherd named Arkadas, meaning friend in Turkish, will join Mexico’s famed canine unit, which specialises in helping locate survivors in a country prone to earthquakes and other natural disasters.
