Turkish Delight - Post for travel and house sitting tips

Ooh @Cuttlefish just spotted you are off to Turkey… where are you heading and are you there yet? We’ve just booked to spend 6 weeks in the south over Christmas and January! It’s a new country for me so will be interested to see what travel tips you have!

Hello, yes we are safely in Turkey. In beautiful Cesme on a repeat sit. That’s the Greek island of Chios across the water…

My husband is Turkish so we come back & forward for sits here between travels. Will you be sitting or just travelling? Where are you going in the south? We used to live in Kalkan but know Fethiye, Antalya, Kas, Dalyan all pretty well too and also Urla, Alacati, Datca & Cesme & of course, Istanbul if you need a steer. Let us know your plans. It’s a wonderful country, still really quite cheap to travel, public transport is excellent, food is great & blue skies nearly all the time, we swim most days through all of winter too:)

That looks beautiful @Cuttlefish … what an outlook! We will keep an eye out for short sits but have for the moment thought we’d use the time to stay a week in different places and explore the sights. We fly in and out of Antalya and have car hire for the duration, and if sits aren’t forthcoming we will put together a bit of a road trip so any inland suggestions really welcome! Have you been to Göbekli Tepe … my partner has that on his list but it looks a long way west from Antalya although I’m guessing there are towns to stay along the way.

There are usually only short sits in Istanbul over here so unlikely I expect but fingers crossed. Yes, GT is a 12 hour drive from Antalya. Side, Alanya, Adana & Mersin are all interesting stops for a couple of days if you go that way. If you head the other direction then Kas, Kalkan, Dalyan, Turunc etc all nice. Depends what you love doing - Epheseus, Pammukale & Cappadocia are all Turkey highlights no question, it’s such a massive country. Stay in the Old Town in Antalya, the Route Hotel is a cute 6 room, adult only independent that’s a great spot. DM me if you’d like to chat more

Thanks @Cuttlefish this is all great info. I’m going to pop it over into a Turkey Travel thread as I’m aware I’ve hijacked the thread, so hopefully will get some additional feedback from others with local knowledge! I will definitely be in touch once we get our route planned. Thanks again and enjoy your time back home

If you have a car, from Antalya ,take absolutely the road going to Bodrum from the water. Exquisite. Just you are going rainy weather. All the ferry travel is stopped until June. Antalya to Gaziantep for best foodie. January Dervis time to Konya. Don’t forget Ephesus. Indefinite possibilities. Roads are great.Enjoy

Advice taken @anon47943759  I think I have too many yukky memories of the confectionary bar in the UK through childhood (anyone else remember that?)… but of course in contrast the “real thing” is delish!!

I remember the bars, so sickly sweet and artificial tasting lol. Nothing like the real thing.

I know… really didn’t like them at all… and was so pleasantly surprised when I had the “real” thing for the first time (actually in Greece but close  ) Went to a place where they made it.

Hello, we eat very well in Istanbul and not just sweets
