The Joy of Return Sits ❤️

There are several locations we return to often, for various reasons. The most important one being it’s where our families reside. Another being it’s simply a location we love, and return to whenever we can fit it into our travel schedule. Pet owners we’ve previously sat for, often reach out to us, asking if we are available, and I’m always sad to say we are booked. I’ve taken a different approach lately, and now reach out to them, as far in advance as possible, to advise we are planning to be in the area and offering our sitting services. They always seem so pleased and often begin firming up their plans, in order to get something confirmed on our mutual calendars. This continuing form of appreciated communication is mutually beneficial for both parties, and it warms our heart to be genuinely welcomed back into their homes to care for their pets. We began this journey is 2021, and continue to love our traveling and petsitting lifestyle.

It’s good to hear a happy story, there should be more of them on the forum, because there’s so many of us that have had a fantastic time with THS. We joined about 2 years ago, and we’ve had an amazing time with lovely and appreciative owners, and adorable pets, many of which we return to like you, we love return sits.

Yes! I love this! There are three or four sits in my local area, and if I ever get a cancellation during term time - I always give them “first dibs” before looking for anything else!

We’ve honestly had 99.99% happy stories during our pet sitting adventures. It’s truly about being able to go with the flow, keeping expectations to a minimum and understanding that no matter the circumstances, it’s only temporary. We are pretty laid back folks, and the joy of full-time travel keeps our heads on straight. We acclimate very easily to almost any situation, and thankfully have always interacted with honest, gracious, welcoming and respectful pet owners.

I’m sure they really appreciate your giving them first dibs!

This is exactly the attitude that I try to work by with house-sitting as it always leads to the best experiences :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: thank you for summarising so well!

That’s exactly why I always emphasize how much I loved all our sits, the pets, and their owners

I do lots of return sits, many owners have become friends and book their holidays around my availability and then send me an invite to sit. They keep in touch by email, with general news not to do with house-sitting. I am made to feel very welcome which is why I go back. I am trusted to keep keys until the next time. (They have my address in case they need it for insurance)
In addition if I am nearby on another sit I pop in for coffee and cake if asked and have even been offered a bed for the night should I need it.
I’m booked up until July 2026. One of the benefits of this site is the surprising opportunities that come with building friendships

For me, carefully screening out bad hosts is key.

Agree with rolling with things that are reasonable, being flexible with hosts who are kind and thoughtful, not expecting perfection, etc. Fortunately, I haven’t had any bad hosts and have experienced much hospitality and generosity. (Two+ years of sitting, 24 sits so far.)

The pets have all been lovable. If time and money weren’t factors, I’d happily fly around and revisit them. I’ve rarely done repeats, though, preferring variety in experiences.

Generally, repeats probably are especially appealing to full-time nomads, because they do so much traveling and don’t have a home base.

Personally, I love time at home and also doing non-sit travel — the combination of those and sitting are ideal for me. I used to think I could be a full-time nomad (long before discovering sitting), but sitting has actually helped me realize that I’m not cut out for giving up having a home base. I love nesting too much.

Yes, sitting appeals to many for different reasons, and repeat sits are a part of that equation for us. While we have been full-time travelers, without a home base since early 2022, we aren’t actually sitting as much as we did 3 years ago. We incorporate long term cruises, along with long term Airbnb stays, then build some petsitting around those adventures. Each year we approach it differently, and will probably go back to more sitting later in 2026. We are also particular on where, when and who we sit for, but it’s the knowledge we’ve acquired over the years, that leads us to quality sits. The beauty of this lifestyle is all the options we are afforded.

We just started our third sit for these wonderful hosts! This is our view from Mt. Tam in Mill Valley, CA, near San Francisco!

Repeat sits are a gift—we know the pets, the house, the neighborhood, the owners. So. much. easier. than a new sit location.

We are grinning ear to ear today! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

We originally met Bear, A little Romanian rescue dog, On a trip to Amsterdam when we were living in Los Angeles. We absolutely fell in love with this quirky little beast, Who would order us to go to sleep at a certain time by looking meaningfully at the stairs and walking back-and-forth, and who would emit little growls if we would turn too much in bed.
We have now sat with him five times, we actually ended up moving to Amsterdam (Coincidence, ha ha), And his mommy and daddy always give us first dibs if they are going out of town, And I will bend over backwards to stay with him :purple_heart::two_hearts::two_hearts::two_hearts:

We enjoy return sits and are already booked for two sits in winter of 2026. It will be our 6th year with one and 4th year with the other. It’s a great way to visit kids and grandkids while having our own place and pets to come back to.
