Things that you like and don’t like about this forum

Isn’t this topic about things members like and dislike about the forum?

Yes and you don’t like your posts being checked.
If it was me I would want to know why.

Whatever the reason is I won’t agree with it and there’s nothing I can do about it.

I don’t like that certain members appear to want to constantly bring up and post about past negative experiences and reviews, trying to prove they aren’t to blame for anything. Comes up on every topic. One leaves another arrives :face_with_monocle:

There are quite a few things I don’t like about this forum, or rather, platform. Most are software-related. The thing I dislike most is the lack of multi-level threading.

  • I like the message encouraging members to welcome new posters.
  • I don’t like the message telling everyone that some members haven’t posted for a while and then state how long ago their last post was. It sounds a bit like telling people off. I don’t need to be given that information. What is the point? Anyway, if someone is interested, they can just check on every single member profile.

I have just found another thing that I don’t like:

The large corpus of words considered “profanity”, even when there’s no clear alternative.

I’d like to clarify that I do agree that moderation is needed and I really appreciate the fact that this forum is kept free from hate speech. Kudos to members and moderators for that.

I also appreciate and value freedom of speech. I think it’s important to guarantee both. Sometimes the line between moderation and censorship is very thin.

It seems some moderators don’t always choose to DM people whose posts are edited or inform the forum of moderation intervention in some threads. I would prefer that information to be shared privately and/or publicly if adequate. In that sense, I’d like to acknowledge that @Jenny has always (to my knowledge) had given such information.

I would like to ask for an extra effort in moderation so that, at least, posts edited read well and make sense.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to provide feedback, whether it’s positive, or constructive criticism.

We are reading and listening, and where possible, we’ll take on board what you’re saying.

For now, I just wanted to make sure you knew we were listening, and if I can expand on any of the points being shared, I’ll definitely do so!

Jenny

I would like to make a suggestion to reduce the negative impact moderation sometimes has on the readability of posts. When a word or sentence is deleted, this could be signaled with a number, symbol or word so that it would explain the awkwardness or lack of meaning.

I will used a post of mine as an example:

I wrote:
“that was before the accelerated …tification process.”

“…tification” was deleted so the remaining sentence had no meaning. If something like () had been left in its place it would at least signal that the original post had something there.

Hi @Newpetlover

That’s a really good suggestion, and I support it.

I’ll speak to the team and look at how we better signpost an edit e.g. adding an * where the removed text was, or something similar.

Jenny

Also when a whole post is removed the poster is advised :folded_hands:

Absolutely @Twitcher - this is something that we’ll be more consistent with moving forwards!

Thanks for taking the suggestions into consideration. I know it’s not your decision but I really appreciate getting some feedback.

I’d love a separate forum where people are always kind rather than blunt. Know that this is not going to happen though.

I would like the forum to be informed too. People are reading a post or have just read one and are ready to reply when it disappears with no explanation.

I have just been notified that a post of mine has been removed as it was off topic. I have no idea what post it was, I can only guess.
It must have been a post in which I mentioned that not informing the forum about moderation felt more like censorship than moderation.
I guess I am allowed to say that here. At least it’s not off topic.
