It may be a privilege to look after their elders but that’s not the point. In Greece, unlike many other countries including the US, there are no other options and if an elderly person doesn’t have a younger generation to look after them, they’re in big trouble. About their only recourse is to pay for someone to visit or a live-in, if they can afford it.
You seem to despise so much about Greece apart from the cost of living.
I hope your Ire doesn’t give you an ulcer
@Jenny probably time to close this thread!
You don’t understand. I really enjoy living here. It’s been the best 2 years of my life. I’m stress free, have lost almost 30 lbs and feel great.
I’m not bothered by the locals and like I said in the immediate area I’ve made a few friends already.
The sad thing about this thread is you genuinely can’t see how offensive your comments are.
I’m simply calling it as I see it providing facts and observation without judgement or criticism.
Wouldn’t moving off-topic posts to more appropriate threads (and eventually closing those) be a better solution?
It is sad, isn’t it @Colin?
My mother would have sent him to his room and told him to think about what he had said.
Hi all,
A few edits have been made to recent posts.
Just a reminder that this discussion was originally set up as a bit of fun and a place to share trivial things that sometimes irk us.
After 18 months, I’d prefer not to shut down the entire discussion.
Hopefully we can all move on. ![]()
I’ll take your word for it as a message board is very one dimensional and difficult to read one’s tone. However your choice of words on a lot of your posts generally appear angry which can be a symptom of stress. But if your stress has dissipated, more power to your elbow. Im glad you have your water system in place and I leave you with one more platitude, which was actually said to me by a very experienced nurse when I was wet behind the ears. “Never look down on anyone unless you are helping to pick them up from the ground- you never know when you will meet them on your way down”
“Thread of Dread”……Love it!
Why are people so scared of “negativity” nowadays? It’s actually healthy to be able to say if something bugged you, or ask for advice - or just vent - if something has gone wrong. But I’m constantly reading irked posts about “negativity” which seem to want us all to be permanently skipping through the daisies, singing our Happy Songs.
Actually, complaints or problems aren’t negative. What’s negative is apathy.
Personally, I find it great fun to mutter darkly of disgruntlements. Please don’t steal my fun.
You’re in good company, unfortunately it’s been stated by a member who has more buttons than the rest of us that this isn’t the place for it.
Perhaps another thread should be started, we can call it “Those Big Irritations’” and limited it exclusively to negativity.
Im not scared of negativity.
If you want honesty about the thread and a few other similar ones posted by some Sitters, it’s the sniping, moaning, “dark humour” and general whingeing about something you didn’t like but are so terrified of losing a star on your rating by saying anything that someone starts a quirky thread that descends into slagging off home owners for not treating you like a hotel guest. But hey, you do you. Its your happy skin you live in ![]()
Just say it on reviews as well. May not be a deal breaker so whats wrong with being upfront where it counts? Make life easier for the next sitter.
Maybe that’s my little irritation- back stabbing
I’m sort of with you but not the part quoted, which shows you’ve totally missed that particular point.
It’s not about being “terrified” of losing a star on a review rating, it’s about smart, sophisticated and wary hosts and sitters who are well aware of the faults inherent in the review system, written by biased individuals most with agendas who understand and attempt to avoid the potentially huge negative ramifications of a less than stellar 5 star review.
This is just a website for people to interact and make arrangements for pet/home sitting.
There’s no conspiracy here
Did someone mention a conspiracy?
You must be imagining that ![]()
Only just read this. If you meant me, no, I didn’t ask for the thread to be closed, but in the spirit of free speech (and not in the Elon Musk style), I will defend your right to free speech as much as I will defend my right ti question what you say or just ignore it when it gets too repetitive. Im not a cancel queen.
An example of family values which are rapidly deteriorating in our own society?
