yes, I was puzzled by that. I have never seen paper towels in a bathroom (with the exception of public ones!)
@Crookie good to clean the mirrors with, but I don’t keep them in the bathroom either ![]()
Mirrors, water splashes… I dunno, I just like to clean my counters and wipe my toilet now and then…

I use a sponge for water stains and disinfecting wipes for the toilet, because I dislike lint from paper towels. But I always buy paper towels for the kitchen, because I want to use however many I like.
ah, ok. I just use a sponge or cloth for those kind of things.
Am I the only one who frets about the Environment…..?
I lean toward whether I can impact the environment in larger ways, like (helping to) create lots of remote jobs. By contrast with paper towels, that’s small potatoes for me. And I don’t use paper towels exclusively — just because I buy so I can control how many I use doesn’t mean I don’t care about the environment.
Agreed. Paper towels are much less environmentally friendly especially when they’re used indiscriminately.
It’s just that it’s so easy to use (clean) rags..
No rugs or paper towels for me. I use disinfecting wipes exclusively. In fact, this is the first item I pick (along with a sponge) during my first grocery run at the location, as (to my surprise) the majority of households don´t seem to use them.
Ha! I’m currently sitting in a place that was described as a “smart home” which came with the use of a brand new hybrid vehicle. The first week was terrifying, as the house and car were much, much smarter than me (mostly because I’m a boomer). But I learned, and this is a long sit so now that I’m comfortable, I’m enjoying this wonderful house and the incredibly generous use of the car.
(Apologies. Removing post in wrong forum. Unable to delete!)
When it’s a long sit, and there’s no space left to hang or store clothes (ending up living out of a suitcase), or for frozen food in the freezer, so needing to eat fresh or canned food.
It’s the little things, but an irritation for small comforts.
Oh yeah. I’ve done plenty of sits where the guest room was beautifully made up for me.. But all the drawers and wardrobes were full of the HO’s stuff. And often, in big houses with lots of storage space (Obviously, if they just don’t have room to move their things, I totally understand).
It’s not just inconvenient living out of a suitcase for several weeks; it’s also kinda… Demoralising. You feel just that little bit less settled. Maybe even a little bit less welcome..
HO Left a 4 digit code for a lock box that only had 3 digits. Figured it out by not using the first number.
toilet roll holder positioned behind you, so many contortionists!
Lack of bedside lamps is my pet peeve. We both like to read a book in bed before going to sleep. Sometimes there will be two bedside tables on either side but only one lamp, meaning only one of us is able to read our book, or even worse, no bedside lamps, meaning we have to read with a horrible bright overhead light and one of us has to climb out of bed to turn it off before sleeping.
Tell me! I’ve just finished a sit where there were no side lights or lamps anywhere. Going To Bed was an interesting exercise, involving switching off the ceiling light on one side of the room, then groping my way to the bed in the Grade A dark, using a small wardrobe as a guide-post. That was OK; I could take a quick mental snap, shut off the light … And stumble with determination. What was less good was waking up in the night needing a pee - and fossicking around in my woozy mind for the location of the wardrobe… And then the light-switch. My toes have never been so stubbed.
If no lamps and reading is a hobby, pick up a book light. They’re cheap, readily available and you control whether you have light, rather than randomly hoping hosts will have them. (That would be nice, but you can’t control that.)
And I never stumble in the dark – I just use my cell phone flashlight.
