Trusted house sitter was clearly here for a holiday!

Yes but they are dogs! And yes we do treat our dogs like family and the only thing as owners we can do is to make sure we get the best care we can.

Most people really enjoy coming here and we enjoy having them here. They do love sitting a “different” breed and are actually very low maintenance - 2x30 min walks and a toilet break!

Yes they have no lack of places to walk. Most of it by dusk is traffic free! You can’t even use weather as an excuse as it is, for once, SUNNY IN YORKSHIRE! Shock horror!

We’ve met some really amazing people through this and totally get that dogs are a big commitment (I’m sure one of the sits was her convincing her other half to get a dog ).

Well we’re sorted now. We try to not use kennels because dogs like their home comforts but have booked them in for the weekend instead.

At the end of the day, it is MY house. If I am not comfortable with people being here, they get asked to leave.

I don’t understand why people are so entitled to things they don’t own especially when they are not doing the task they have been asked to do.

And yes 1:30am was extreme but that was how long it took me to arrive home as soon as it was clear they were not walking the dogs and it was 9:30pm.

Respect works both ways.

If you don’t do the job you’ve been asked to do, you don’t get paid. In this sense, you don’t walk the dogs, you don’t get to stay in my house! Simple!

THS is soooo much better than kennels, I wish I’d discovered it back when we had pets, but you’ve done the right thing in your particular scenario, it will be so much better than the rubbish sitter you had, as at least they’ll get a proper loo break this time around.

Hello everyone

Thanks to those who have come to give OP some advice on their concerns.

I just wanted to leave a reminder about our Community Guidelines around being kind and respectful even if you disagree with someone.

I’ve moderated some replies on this thread to keep things on track, and it would be great if we could keep things kind.

@Heptonstallchows Was this on the very first day of the sit, when you drove home?

What time did the sitters arrive?

Yes I do agree, to be fair in kennels they also get quite a lot of play time and two big walks a day and at points today I thought, £20 a day is worth paying to remove the stress! But I wished I had used THS before getting my dogs so I knew how much work they were

Once again a lamb to the slaughter. Guidelines are set for both homeowners AND sitters and if either party is not doing the right thing, then make a comment, not an insult or personal attack for heaven’s sake. But please, stop trying to defend one party every.single.time. There can be error on both sides.

In this case, I have to agree totally with @ElsieDownie who worded it perfectly and as it should be, in my personal opinion. I implore people to always put themselves in someone else’s shoes - would you feel good if you were the HO in this case, who clearly made her expectations well known to the sitter before the sit?? Being tired etc is no excuse whatsoever for avoiding the responsibility and commitment you make to a HO. If the requirements are there in black and white, follow them, regardless. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

… sitter in this case? Who hade arranged a weekend getaway with his girlfriend?

It is not difficult to find the listing, and the stringency of the requirements is not spelled out there.

Hello everyone,

As always, we don’t like closing down discussions, but I’ve had to pop on and do some more moderation, so I think it’s best we draw a line under this one as things were starting to get personal.

Thanks to everyone that took part in good faith.
