They were upset because of the alarm system kept triggering and allegedly interfered with their camping trip. The alarm glitch does not render me lacking organization or self direction.
Twice now, I have left five star reviews for HOâs who appeared amicable and satisfied only to become two faced and dock me the stars. Itâs a stupid thing to be upset about the stars, but I take what I do seriously and in many cases leave the house in better condition than how I found it.
The thing is, the sitter leaves the first review, after which the homeowners review is published. The reviews are locked in and apparently itâs too late to change what they have submitted. I had one HO who said she made an error in the review and made every effort to change it successfully. This HO and her dogs like me so much that I now sit for her outside of the TH platform.
I just did a quick tally of my 35 THS sits and I have remained for the HO return exactly once. I have a hunch that the âexit interviewâ was only going to result is a session of bullying/intimidation. You can write a response to their review but there is no time limit. Take your time on that one.
I donât reply on housesitting gigs for accomodation as I have a lovely home.
Absolutely, I did not freak out when water gushed in through the window well in the middle of a stormy night with tornados touching down around me. I simply mopped up the water.
Iâm curious about the notes the HO left in the kitchen, were these different from the Welcome Guide? Iâve had ambiguous notes that didnât match medications etc. itâs not always obvious, which instructions to follow.
No, this is not accurate as of about 2 years ago. There is a 14 day deadline after the sit ends to submit a review. Both reviews will be published immediately and simultaneously if both are submitted before the 14 days are up. Otherwise, when only one side has submitted a review, it wonât be visible publicly until the 14 days pass. After that itâs too late for the other party.
Never heard of an exit interview, or would I have one. Itâs a mutual exchange, not a job interview before and after.
We live in Winnipeg, in Osborne Village. That storm was wild and devastating! It sounds like you did an amazing job taking care of things in the midst of chaos. Just because they were getting notifications from the alarm company doesnât mean you werenât dealing with it. It just means the alarm kept tripping due to all the wind, rain and electricity problems. It seems like they were more concerned about being bothered by the alarm than wondering if you and the animals and house were ok. They jumped to a conclusion without thinking it through.
We have used THS both as sitters and as HOs. Right now we are on the site as HOs only. Idk how to find your sitter profile but Iâd like to take a look, if youâre interested in ever coming back here. You sound level headed and I like that. All the best to you.
I am from Manitoba and this was an extreme storm!! The prairies donât do well when there is this amount of rain, as there is no where for it to go.
Sounds like you did well in a severe situation!
An exit interview, as if you were an employee.
Hi Joanne, I appreciate your input. My family is in Winnipeg, and I come here about 3 times a year. Iâd love to hear from you - and yes - those Manitoba storms are scary - Iâve lived in Manitoba most of my life, but that doesnât make it easier. The danger is real. That night, the emergency phone messages must have gone off 5 times. No exaggeration.
I gave it my best shot. The storms are frightening with the emergency notices on the phone going off about 5 times that night.
I looked at your profile and all seems lovely. As a HO their odd review would not bother me at all. I think youâll be fine, and you did well in such a severe storm. I would definitely be appreciative, sorry these HOs were not.
I agree. It must be very difficult. I do sits near to where my family live, to meet up a bit at the same time, and under 2 hours travelling distance from my own home. I still end up paying for budget hotel stays to accommodate sit (and my own) requirements at times, but am not left in very difficult or costly situations. My experience so far leaves me a bit reluctant to apply for sits further afield though.
I resolved a potentially serious problem for a dog that was constipated. Got better food for the dog and helped her poop again within a day. Paid for it from my own money. My review was 5 stars but only 4 for cleanliness and reliability. They never even mentioned that I cured their dog from a serious issue. That felt very ungrateful too.
And has been one of the reasons why I pet sit less these days.
Never sub them
Sub? Meaning?
Buying something for someone with your own money and expect them to pay you back later
