Hello, I’m new to THS and just trying to navigate the system. I can’t see my sent messages on the “inbox” page and therefore / also can’t see if they have been read. I’m sure I must be missing something but is there a quick help guide I could look at to help me understand how it works please?

I’ve found the inbox in the app, much easier to negotiate. The messages don’t collapse into each other and you can clearly see the back/forth response and if it’s been read-good luck!
Thanks @Joanne and @BunnyCat , that’s really helpful. I’ve downloaded the app now so I think I will use that for checking messages too. And a good idea to put some sort of request to hear back from too.
@BunnyCat has that worked for you to speed up HO replies?
Sadly, it is not to be. They decide to go with someone who’d sat for them before. Super bummed. ![]()

I REALLY wish THS would take SOME action about this :
a) HOs not reading a long and thoughtful, carefully tailored application and:
b) Simply rejecting the application without a message and:
c) rejecting the application without a polite message when there were fewer than 3 people having applied in the first place.
In my annual fee, I am paying for a service … and I am not getting that service.
It’s not just HOs though. I invited four sitters yesterday evening - my polite and friendly invitation which explain why I was inviting that person specifically was rejected with no comment by one straightaway (at least he didnt keep me waiting). The other three havent even read their messages yet (which is fair enough, it’s less than a day but I’m hoping they will do today/tomorrow).

How do you mark it with a label? Of any kind? I would really like to do that for my own private use. Thanks for any tips.
Am very new to THS so hope I’m not speaking out of turn but I have sent around 20 individual messages & invitations to sitters.
All except 2 are marked as being read, I have received less than 10 replies so around 50% response. Probably not as crucial as getting your application firmed up especially if you are travelling but I am trying to cover my dates too.
Personally I wouldn’t dream of not responding even if just to say thanks but am sorted.

I use the website rather than the app.
Go into your Inbox
On the top right of your screen before your messages you will see a box Titled Filter By Label
Click on the arrow and it should open up a variety of labels. You can either use those or make some more and change the colour. Go to the bottom and you will see Manage Labels. Click on this and you can then do all of this.
I have about 15 labels and use them every time

This is a probably a get off chest matter but a HO I had saved to my favorites invited me to sit for several dates they had listed.
Now I know they were being pro active to secure a sitter and will have most likely put an invite out to others. As a sitter I consider carefully before applying and accepting. I’m conscientous and its not in my personality to commit to anything unless I know I can and absolutely want to follow it through.
In meantime I sent a message to HO, covering our situation and to begin polite conversation with them.
The message has not been read but I decided to accept the dates that fitted in with us (I’d explained this in the unread message).
Today the HO decined me!!!
Im not actually annoyed that the HO has chosen someone else. Im annoyed they dont have the courtesy to even drop a line or enter into a conversation. Im also sorry I spent so long considering it and I dont think I would have been too happy sitting for them if they dont want to enter into communication with the person looking after their home and pets.
I know there are plenty of courtious and considerate HO’s out there thankfully and this is hopefully a minority but its quite annoying.
It happens. We have even once applied, been declined, then invited, and then we had to decline ourselves (the HO never replied to any of our messages or wrote anything to accompany his invitation). It’s rare and most HOs are responsive and courteous.
I feel quite awful about this now as HO got back to me and hadnt received my messages!
There must be some technical issues.
Shes now asked if we can do other dates which we cant.
She was genuinly apologetic that she hadnt got back to us too, so i feel abit bad.
Sadley this does happennthough with other HO’s.
I had just downloaded the app and sent messages via this.
Could admin look at this if its hapoening frequently.
This HO had no idea we’d accepted their invitation to sit and hadnt responded to our message as they hadnt seen them.
Ive sent an apology as id returned a curt reply to them but it could be a big cause of sitter/HO grumbles.

Hi everyone!
I am just wondering how long everyone gives an owner when they have applied for a sit and heard nothing? Is it usually around 24-48 hours? I notice that the ones that don’t respond seem to be the ones with like 4-7 applicants or more +.

We normally have multiple applications ongoing at the same time - Aa soon as we get a confirmed sit we withdraw all those with matching dates with a short message telling them that we no longer have the dates they require available
