Unread Messages - Is this usual?

Hi,

I’m new. I searched the forum for the answer to this question, but couldn’t find one. Is it common for HOs to leave applications unread for days. A couple days I can understand, but more than five? Could there be a glitch in the system and HO’s aren’t seeing that there are applications? Are messages going to junk mail? One lady told me she wanted to interview me by the end of the week, I replied days and times that were best for me within a couple of hours and my reply is still unread three days later. It would be sad and frustrating if she thought I never replied. Should I send another message hoping this one goes through?

Are you all experiencing similar situations? I’m also hoping also to hear from HOs. Are you having trouble receiving messages?

Thank you for any advice!

It does happen @LittleFlower - did the two of you swap what’s app numbers as that’s usually a great fail-safe right from the off. Some people are slow on comms and some bounce between the app and the website which doesn’t always help the situation. Message her again to see if it flags her attention & hopefully it will work. Best of luck :crossed_fingers:t3:

I can’t remember which way round it is but I’m pretty sure that on the app it can show as read but on the website can show as unread - or the other way around. They have probably read it but just not actioned it. Sometimes a HO will find someone suitable even after telling you they would like to make contact but just don’t let people know or don’t confirm the sit. I sometimes drop them a quick note saying e.g. wondering if you would still like to have that chat we discussed on a previous message.

Don’t wait though, keep applying for other sits as the chances are she may have moved on and you will be left like a shag on a rock.

That has happened to me too! I thought this was strange, and after a week I sent a message wondering if there had been a glitch. Then they accepted my application immediately, saying that we could have the video chat later on. And I confirmed.

This was a friendly HO but very very busy with a demanding job and with young children. It turned out to be an enjoyable sit.

In other cases, applications went unanswered until they expired. Sometimes the owners may drop their travel plans and not log in to the site again for months. Don’t wait for them, just send out new applications.

Hello Little Flower… I think this goes both ways… as a ho I’ve sent out many invitations to sit for me, many are not even read or responded to… I’ve asked the ‘help line’ but they just repeat the ‘rules’ etc.

Thank you so much. I did not provide other ways to contact me. I will do that from now on.

The HO had told me she was very flexible with times for the interview so it sounded like she wasn’t very busy. I think you are right and she probably accepted someone else. This is good advice for the future though. I’m glad you were able to book that sit.

Hello @ziggy

Just to let you know this was an old glitch and has been fixed, sorry if you missed the updates on the forum. So if the message has been read it will show as read both on the app and website

I’ve submitted lots of applications that went unread- many as the only applicant. Perhaps it is a glitch in the system. Perhaps these people decided that they didnt need a sitter but didnt take their listing down. Maybe they think there is no hurry to read the application and get back to the sitter. I usually just withdraw my application after i find another sit. I applied recently to a sit that i was unsure about as the dog was described as a velcro dog. I was the only applicant. The pet parent sent me a confirmation right away but i replied saying that i wanted to do a call first. Although my message was marked as read, i never heard from her again. I eventually rejected the confirmation after not hearing from her for over a week.
