I was staying in a nearby hotel so I could get to the sit just after HO left for airport. 15 minutes before arriving I received a text saying dog, senior staffie, was sick and vet would arrive an hour after me. Bad diarrhea, vet gave me pro-kolin and told to feed bland diet. HO had already left food for me to cook so I believe he’d been unwell for a few days. Had couple of accidents over last 2 nights, which I’ve had to clean up. That doesn’t bother me, however HO seems to think I’m letting him mess inside which will make him nervous as he’s never done it before, thereby his meds won’t work to make him better. This doesn’t make sense to me. I’m an experienced sitter, full time for 3 years, 50 + sits
A couple of accidents for an unwell dog is to be expected. Perhaps asking the HO to reach out to the vet again may help? Two days of bland diet and meds should be having an effect by now…
I’ve a pet first aid certificate and a dog behaviour training diploma. Also volunteered in a dog sanctuary with 100 street dogs. So I’m experienced with dogs. My concern is not actually the dog, I reckon he’ll be better in a couple of days, if not I’ll get the vet.
There’s something that concerns me about the HO, she changed vets about a month beforehand, who told me that her previous dog died in strange circumstances allegedly. HO informed me the dog was nervous and highly sensitive of which I can see no signs. In fact she is friendly with other dogs. I’ve found out that she’s lied to me over several things and neighbours have informed me that she must vacate this house imminently.
It is all very strange and nothing is feeling right. I’m not sure what to think. Perhaps I just need this written down in case something does happen.
hmm very strange. poor doggo. Are you thinking similar to munchausens (sp?) type situation? If the dog is a senior and not feeling well maybe he doesnt have it in him to be displaying nervous behaviour.
Are you saying she’s being evicted? What kinds of things has she lied about? How long are you there for?
You would think the HO would realize of course poor dog is having accidents overnight if he was just getting sick and hadnt been treated yet and getting worse. Ugh sorry youre in this sitch. Were there other things kicking up your spidey senses during the application process or other communications prior to arrival?
Hang in there, sounds like you have all the experience needed to help the dog. Now… to withstand the HO…
I suggest you put all of this on record with THS membership services in case things turn sideways and you potentially need to end the sit early, or whatever else drama unfolds.
Can you find out more from the neighbours?
Hi @MichelleD
So sorry to hear about this.
How is the dog now, and how are you?
