US Government Shutdown and Air Travel delays

Are other HO or sitters with upcoming US sits becoming concerned with air travel delays/cancellations due to the continued shutdown?

We have a sitter due Saturday (she is driving so no issue for her arrival) but we have a Sunday morning flight. We are already prepared for delays but are also putting in plans for if flights are cancelled/hopeless.

Anyone else concerned?

It definitely could happen.

Flight delays and cancellations in 2019 encouraged a re-opening of the US government, during the last shutdown.

At least we all KNOW that it might happen. A terrible weather event or terrorist attack (like 9-11) is unpredictable.

I am on my third sit since the shutdown started. Of the two that have been completed, they didn’t experience any sort of delays for their flights out or back–Newark and Boston.

My current hosts flew out this morning and not sure if they experienced any sort of delay–they left last night to drop their car off for a family member and were leaving for the airport from their house.

To be honest I hadn’t thought much about it. We didn’t have any issues but I suppose anything is possible and it would be good for people to discuss potential snafus with their hosts or sitters so everyone is on the same page.

Yes we plan to discuss our plan b and c with the sitter when she arrives Saturday.

Plan D - Worst case, if flights are cancelled, we will keep the sit in place and drive to Vegas instead and enjoy a few days there

That does sound like a good plan. We booked a sit in Vegas over Christmas and looking forward to it. We have never been before.

I have, my husband has never been. Honestly it isn’t my favorite place but I’d rather improvise than cancel on the sitter.

I am a combined member. We finished a sit in Seattle and are currently on a short vacation/road trip in the mountains. My sitter is actually leaving a little earlier than she planned because of concerns that her flight could be cancelled. And I have a list of neighbors I could call if my flight is delayed or cancelled for a final feeding. It’s not ideal but compared to other stuff that people in the US are dealing with, this is definitely not a big problem.

If I were a homeowner with the space, I’d probably look for a sitter willing to stay an extra night or two just in case and/or make sure there is a neighbor/friend/relative /Rover plan B that you can easily activate.
