Video calling people

New-ish sitter here, started in 2022 and have completed 7 successful sits each time with a video call before confirming. Never for house tours though, only for a face-to-face with HOs. Booking our 2023 and we’ve confirmed 2 sits, both will be for first-time HOs.

I think they’re discovering how to navigate the site, don’t know what the usual procedures are, and accepted my application right away. I told them before I clicked agree to sit, let’s have a conversation first so both sides know what the expectations are.

One HO couple video called us we clicked right away and confirmed.

One HO had the husband (audio) call us. I didn’t dare to ask where she was. The husband seems warm and friendly, and we confirmed the sit. I think it’ll be a nice one. It’s just the first time for us to do only an audio call and I’m a little nervous about it. But reading your comments comforts me that some experienced sitters do only audio calls or none at all and still have a great time.

The sit is in less than 2 weeks, will let you guys know how it goes.

Im a home owner and a sitter, and ive had a video call with all of my applicants and also the sits ive agreed to. We’ve always conducted them over WhatsApp. I personally prefer it to a phone call as I think its easier to show your personality etc but I suppose every is different. Go with what feels comfortable for you

My personality definitely doesn’t come over in a video chat. I just freeze but ask me to to chat on phone I’m a different person altogether.yes it’s what you are comfortable about it I guess and that should be taken in to consideration.

Hi there, we are seeking a sitter for the first time and have a couple of candidates that look good but I would like to have a chat to them on line- how do I do that?
Thanks

Offer to set up a Zoom or Face Time or What’s app video call with them at a time that suits you both. Just need to swap numbers and emails to do it :+1: as per @Twitcher’s message - you both need to be THS members to do this.

If you are a member already you can message them and set up a video call by Skype/FaceTime/Zoom etc.
If you are not a member you cannot contact a sitter until you pay your membership.
