Well that’s never happened before!

My wife and I have 50 sits completed and on several occasions the HO have responded with “Well that’s never happened before” First example in New England rural dog sit. Attached dog to long clothes line in yard for morning business. A while later a bear enters yard and this old small dog does her best to attack the bear. Happy ending as the bear was the calm mature creature and ambled off into the woods after going nose to nose. The HO had lived there for many years and “we have never seen a bear on our property “

This sounds terrifying. I’ve heard too many coyote stories from friends in various states including Massachusetts, and Colorado to ever leave a dog alone in a yard. A bear would just be a nightmare. Sounds like everyone got lucky!

Yes, sometimes people think that leaving a dog or cat within a fence will keep them safe. But predators like coyotes can jump to surprising heights and attack pets left alone.

I once lived in densely populated area near woods and people were urged to go look for their missing pets’ remains there, because they would’ve been dragged there as meals. Hideous.

That sort of thing is especially risky with people who are new to areas with coyotes or are unfamiliar with them.

One more example, watching 2 small dogs in Europe and hosts tell us that the dogs play rough but don’t interfere and it will be fine. Sure enough they had a tussle on the bed and we left them alone. Next morning there is blood on the duvet cover. The smaller dog now had a hole clean through her ear! Contacted host and “that’s never happened before”
