Yes! And similarly, Asia, Middle East, etc.
Turo does something like this. For example, âThe host cancelled this trip 1 hour before it started. This message was automatically posted by Turo.â
The limit is 3 Saved searches in the web interface for Basic membership. I see that you have Premium membership. That is supposed to give you unlimited saved searches, but there is a limit anyway (at 50 I think).
Yesss, thatâs exactly what Iâm meaning! I would love to see something like that added to the THS reviews section! Maybe with a âreasonâ listed, so valid cancellations donât reflect poorly on the sitter/owner
an extra function with âfamily friendlyâ for the home owner to pick:
Suitable for babies/toddlers
Suitable for primary school kids
Suitable for high/secondary school kids.
Suitable for children of all ages.
I know itâs been suggested numerous times, but perhaps another mention might just make a difference.
Make it easier to bring inappropriate listings to the attention of staff by introducing a a âreport this listingâ option rather than having to take screenshots and then email their concerns.
Good morning
Can I suggest the following be taken back to those that might like to know. I understand itâs been mentioned before but it doesnât hurt to repeat it.
1: Make it compulsory when an owner creates a listing, that they complete a form giving sitters Pet Power of Attorney to make decisions relating to the pets health (in conjunction with a vet professional) which must be given to the vet prior to the sit and they tick to confirm this will be done.
It is then shared like the Welcome Guide confirming that financial arrangements HAVE been made prior to the start of the sit.
Reminders sent as the sit approaches for both owners and sitters. âHave your owners shared the welcome guide and PPA?â âDonât forget to share your welcome guide and PPA form with your sitter before the sit commencesâ.
It really shouldnât be for the sitter to have to pay and pray that are reimbursed. I most definitely donât have spare money to pay for someone elseâs pets vet bills that the owner is under no obligation to repay.
Thank you
Daisy
No problem @Daisy999 - weâre happy to feed that back to the team for you.
@Daisy999 , I am in agreement that financial responsibility for pet care is the ownerâs responsibility and should never fall on the sitter.
However, POA for pet care decisions can be given to the sitter or can be assumed by whomever the owner specifies. If the owner cannot be reached in an emergency they may prefer a friend or family member to be the decision maker. This can all be written in an Absent Owner Treatment Consent form that the owner fills out for you.
I totally agree with you, as long as authority is given to someone in the ownerâs absence, that makes sense to me. ![]()
Hello from a homeowner.
Iâve been reading a lot about sitters saving listings, but Iâm still not seeing an answer to my issue.
I have over 100 sitters who have saved my listing and Iâm getting almost daily emails from THS that more sitters have saved my listing. When I look at all the sitters who have saved my listing, Iâm seeing A LOT of duplicates. I would love to be able to delete these duplicates, or even better, not receive duplicates.
And if the powers that be are reading this, please, PLEASE, can you please list these in date order or even better yet, let us sort and filter?
Thank you.
HOs are supposed to respond within 72 hours. Iâve been in the position as a sitter of simply dropping out if my application hasnât received any response. This canât work well for the HOs even if they are waiting for more applicants or trying to systematically meet with applicants. It feels like what they should get should be an automatic prompt. However, I also have a combined membership, and I can tell you many times when sitters apply and then never respond back to questions or requests for more information, videochats etc. Itâs not clear to me if theyâve lost interest or what.
Iâm not sure this has been brought up yet (there are so many replies I havenât looked through all of them) but I would like to be able to download the Welcome Guide. At the very least it would be nice if the Welcome Guide was still available after the sit is completed. This could help if you have a repeat sit with a HO or if there is some disagreement between the Sitter and HO about responsibilities, etc.
Hi @PetTrippin , you canât download the WG directly. You can copy and paste it into a document. It is no longer accessible online after the sit is completed.
Great question @Tak.oyaki
Iâm interested in features that equalise the experience & autonomy for HOs and sitters alike.
- Full personal profile and clear photo of HO
- Background check for HO
- More precise location on the listing so you can check neighbourhood and transport links
- Mechanism for sitter to cancel sit at their end
- Working alerts function
- Enforcement of THS Ts and Cs*
- HO responsible for vet costs incurred, either by setting up an account or leaving cash
- Enforce banning of profiles with dangerous pets**
*HOs must vacate the property for the duration of the sit, they canât come back for visits! Home exchanges are also not allowed. - Why arenât these enforced? I report them when I see them.
** The profile of a vicious cat that attacked me is still on the site. When I arrived the bookshelf was full of books about how to manage aggressive animals; this was a known behaviour and not indicated on the profile.
About the vicious cat that attacked you and the books on handling such cats: Thatâs terrible and hosts should know that in various countries, they can be sued for that sort of thing. You couldâve taken photos of the books and documented your injuries, for instance. And in some jurisdictions, animals that have a history of attacks can be put down by officials. Thatâs why, if you go to the hospital in some areas, they will take down info and the relevant regulatory agency will follow up with the victim.
I mention the above, because hosts with such pets should be held accountable for endangering sitters and others.
Iâd also report them to THS, because theyâre not supposed to allow such pets, according to THS terms.
@STH there is an official complaint procedure where you can give detail about dangerous pets for example .
Hi @Maggie8K â we are of the same mind ![]()
I reported it immediately to member services who - at the time - were not as helpful as they are now. Hereâs what I emailed them when it happened in 2017:
"If a sitter has been attacked by an animal I feel it it important that a future sitters know this. It might be wise - and good to avoid liability from a business standpoint - to add these events to peopleâs accounts so that future sitters are aware of violent animals and / or attacks so they can make a more informed decision about house sits.
"This keeps sitters safe and out of harms way.
âIn this case I know itâs the first time my hosts have used the site, but would like to know that if they use it again this incident will be on their host profile for this particular cat.â
Now itâs articulated in the Ts & Cs:
5.2.11. not have any inherently dangerous pets (such as venomous snakes or constrictors, primates, wolves or wolf hybrids, non-domesticated cats, alligators), banned dog breeds, or any animal with a history of attacks on pets or people;
Last year 2022 the mastiff bit the head of the small dog 3 days before I arrive, and the HO was surprised I said that the mastiff now needs professional kennelling as heâs no longer eligible for pet sitting on THS. I reported this to THS, but the HO was so upset the review (including the dog attack and the filthy home) that they withdrew their membership voluntarily.
The cat sit is still on the site; and I donât know if the dog sit will pop up again without restriction. (Mostly concerning because the owner confided in me on arrival that the mastiff had ânipped the kidsâ on occasionâ
)
I contact member services immediately â always.
They have a full report from me about both aggressive animals - one in 2017, and one in 2022.
I doubt theyâd change it. I think the reasoning for not being able to print it or save it on the sitterâs end is because there may be private information that the HO doesnât want shared. The practical thing for a sitter to do if they want a copy saved at a time would be to ask for a printed version and simply copy each page by phone just in case.
In many cases, HOs are using their own version of written instructions anyway. (I use a shared google doc, but I often make changes to that doc, so it is not static over time.)
