Hi @SeniorSitter1 if you havenât tried it already, vegetarian haggis is really nice. I tried it with my Christmas dinner the Christmas before last on the Isle of Skye in Scotland and they replaced the meat with pulses, spiced vegetables, and seeds. It was really delicious! ![]()
We enjoyed these in Sri Lanka and we discovered that Coconut water is natureâs perfect remedy to cope with Sri Lankaâs tropical humidity. This is because it naturally replenishes key electrolytes like potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium, which you lose when you sweat .
It is also low in calories and sugar, and is quickly absorbed by the body thanks to its isotonic properties.
Hi @WeRPAWsome Itâs definitely one of my favourite joys of travelling, I love wandering the grocery aisles seeing what delights I can discover!
In fact, it was in a Bilka store in Denmark that I also discovered that I love salty liquorice (Lakrids by BĂŒlow) and now I buy it whenever I get the chance.
That sounds like something I would like, thanks so much for the info.
Banana ice cream.
Couple years ago we spent several weeks on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Simply spectacular. We enthusiastically hope to return there
. In any case, it seems that a special variety of small banana grows on Madeira and it is delicious in ice cream, smoothies, etc.
I put frozen banana slices in a blender with milk and vanilla and it turns into soft serve banana ice cream.
Hi @Silversitters I tried Czech plum dumplings (Ć vestkovĂ© knedlĂky) whilst in Prague, yeast dumplings filled with seasonal fruit on a bed of Tvaroh cheese. I agree with you, they were absolutely delicious! ![]()
Whitby scampi, in Whitby from the takeaway. But I didnât go for the offered scraps with it when I found out what that was. Eww.
I love Scraps, only available in England, I think, I have never seen them in Scotlland.
I think scraps may be a northern England term, We would often get chips & scraps in York. Here in Gloucestershire there isnât a name for them, but you can ask for âbatter bitsâ.
Being Australian I had to ask what scraps were @RedLassie. When they showed me the pile of oily batter bits skimmed off the top of the deep fryer oil sitting in the hot box, I said no thanks. My husband was not happy when I declined ![]()
I love Gazpacho too!! Tasty, healthy, easy to transport and eat ![]()
You missed out. They are lovely. Honest!
Hello @Chrissy
That looks absolutely divine, I wish hubby and I had tried these whilst we were in Catania.
I tried these delicious crispy orange sardines on caponata when we visited Ragusa in Sicily.
I also loved the granita cĂą brioscia, or otherwise known as granita with brioche. Itâs a very popular breakfast dish all over Sicily. Did you try this during your travels there?
No I havenât had Sicilian breakfast. I travel to Sicily to visit an a friend who has gone back home to live just outside Catania. Another friend comes with me and but as she is type 1 diabetic we usually get an Airbnb so she can work out her food easily so we shop in local markets, get taken to all sorts of extraordinary none tourist places to visit and eat. Last time we stayed high above Taormina, with a fabulous restaurant next door and the host was a chef. My favorite snacks are Arancini warm from the bakery (preferably Cheese) and a Cannoli with a coffee and a view
.
