When a sit is working

Just a week or so away from returning home after almost a month away. Our sitters are so lovely, enjoying themselves and sending videos of playtime with my pup and kitties. Could not have made a better match without divine intervention.

Treating these lovely sitters to a day off this week - they are heading to one of the local big theme parks for the day, and our trusty drop in sitter will stop by (our expense) to care for our pup while they stretch out a bit.

My only worry at this point is maybe my pup will like them better then us when we return because of all the fun they are having, LOL. I guess that’s the right problem to have!

We are enjoying our holiday, but I do miss my furry munchkins :smiling_face_with_tear:

Its probably a little similiar to grandparents…I know how much my grandaughter loves spending time with me because I spoil her and we get to do things she doesnt do with her family, but she still loves her parents and always appreciates being home in her own bed. Same with pets.

@Felinelover, funny as it sounds then we’ve come across situations when Pet Parent has seemed oddly disappointed at the notable absence of a poor dog behaviour issue (walking challenges, eating issues, etc) during our housesit!

Yeah, one dog I sat for learned how not to pull on leash with me… and the night her owner came home and we all spent the night together, that dog slept outside my closed bedroom door and not in her owners room on her dog bed! I was never invited back:joy:

Yep - exactly!!

I do wonder if she’ll sleep outside their door when we get home :joy:

They sound like great sitters and you are a great host.

I love walking and generally give the dogs I look after longer (as long as they’re capable) and more varied walks than they’re used to but worry about them going back to shorter, regular walks when their owners return. However, I see it as giving them a holiday as well.

Very occasionally I have had a host who has kept a regular dog walker or doggy day care once a week to give me a break/chance to explore for longer and that has been very welcome.

It has happened with my own dog. When I arrived home, it took probably two days before she would come near me. I was being punished  Also happens on lots of sits and the homeowners comment the same - their cats/dogs are very indifferent for a day or two. It actually makes them feel very good though, knowing how content their pets must have been in their absence.

This brought back memories of my Mum going away on holiday and leaving her Westie with my Sister.
My Sister held the dog in her arms at the end of the drive and when Mum went to say goodbye to the dog it just turned it’s head the other way in disgust :joy:

Our neighbour had a dog we would look after when he was away. One time we were both a way and dog had to go to the kennel. We all were snubbed by the dog when he came home.
