For myself, its the annual fee that is holding me back from being able to join as a house sitter. I belong to several groups, backbackers, couchsurfers, this one is pricey.
Hi Chamel, we also belong to several house sitting groups and THS is by far our favourite. Yes, it’s a bit pricier than the others, but we have found it to be the best bang for our buck. There are far more opportunities to house sit - presently over 7000 and the support is top notch! We have completed 13 sits so far and most of them were from this site. The layout of the website is so user friendly and this forum is a great resource. In my opinion, it’s the best of all of them. Oh, and make sure you get a discount code, so you can safe some money too!
Thanks so much, will take extra care with my pics! really appreciate your help
Great tips, thanks so much!
I’m having the same problem. I want to go away for 2 weeks. After posting for 2.5 weeks and getting no applications, I broke it into two 1 week stays in case people cant get away that long. I boosted my listing as well as reached out to about a dozen sitters to invite them to sit. I’m on the coast of Monterey Bay, so it’s a great location. I have good photos. I don’t understand…
Hi @BethNel and welcome to the forum. Hopefully our forum members will collectively be able to help you find a suitable sitter. My first suggestion is to embed your listing in your forum username/profile. We have some great success stories of homeowners tweaking their listings, based on member feedback, with great success. Hopefully the same will happen for you.
One of the frequent sticking points these days is when an owner tags their listing as ‘sitters need a car’. If that’s the case for your listing, I suggest you reconsider whether it’s essential, or preferred. You limit your sitter pool when you add that restriction, as rental cars are cost-prohibitive for many these days.
I’ll also add a link to a post relating to splitting listings that may be of interest to you.

Hi BethNel, I don’t see your listing. I’d be interested in a 2 week sit in Monterey Bay!
That would be great no just signed up for the Community Forum this afternoon & later got an email on how to link them. I’ll do that tonight.

The sitters are coming back!! It has been slow to start but now it is really picking up. We have some supper sitters booked in for our 2 earliest dates and several for ones I have just put up. Much happier with how things are going. I think that covid has slowed up everywhere and travelling to and from abroad has been fraught with difficulties.
@Coco that is such good news… really pleased to hear
Thank you, hope you are getting some great sits abroad. You will always be welcome here. We miss you. You were amazing sitters
@Coco awww thank you so much
@Coco thank you for taking the time to share your positive outcomes with members. You are a member who has given great consideration to the input from forum members, selecting those ideas that would work for you. That’s encouraging for members who take the time to share their ideas, so thank you for that too. I’m glad to hear that things are progressing well for you.
Thank you for your kind words
… and thank you for this, the perfect line to end this comment on.

We listed a sitting a year ago and immediately began receiving applications. We interviewed several applicants and found a fantastic sitter. We’ve put a listing in for this year and have yet to receive a single applicant, despite the listing having been there for nearly 2 months. Would you all be kind enough to look at the listing and let us know if you spot anything that might be wrong? Thank you.

@Bpfish36 welcome to the forum. Changes have been ongoing over the past two years that have affected all aspects of our lives, including house and pet sitting. Just reading a few of the most current posts on the forum will give you some insight into current challenges (and joys, of course).
Here are the instructions for how to add your listing into your forum username/profile.

Hello, I joined TH a few weeks ago and so far have not found a sitter for our listing. We have flight tickets which we are not going to cancel and I am getting very nervous about not being able to find a great house sitter. I have followed guideliens, uploaded plenty of pictures and reached out to at least 20 prospective sitters. So far everyone has decided my request. I really wanted this website to work and I believe it’s a great idea but I’m not sure what to do now. I read that I can request my money back if noone applies after 2 weeks of posting the listing.
However, one person applied but she stated in her text that she ia not sure she can do my dates. We exchanged a couple messages and haven’t heard from her for days. So this is not really an application.
I am a little discouraged. I would appreciate some good advice.
Hi @KRISSY27 I suggest you put a link to your sit in your forum profile so people on here can see your sit listing and give you feedback on it and potentially there could be a sitter on the forum who might be available.
New to this site, but after a nervous couple of days of waiting, I got 4 sit offers and 3 of them were great – and you only need one. So I guess I’m saying “quality over quantity” works for me.
