I’ve seen her statue on visits to the Twin Cities, where I also saw heaters at bus stops for the first time. Happily for my wimpy self, it was never winter when I visited. BRRRR.
About halfway through a 10 day sit in Driftwood, Texas - west of Austin at the beginning of the Texas Hill country.
Bailey, a 4 year old yellow Labradoodle - mom - and Chewey, a 1 yo black poodle - dad.
Their 7 2 month old puppies - they all have names but I’m really not trying to remember them -
4 rabbits who don’t require much attention -
Puff - a crested dragon -
Sunny - a bearded gecko -
Chickens, ducks, and a turkey who is quite curious and brave -
And there are some beehives on the back of the property and the western honey bees were attending to a pond near the house - they are known for being docile -
And an ant farm that gets a few drops of sugar water every few days.
It is a busy sit, but not really hard - only the dogs and reptiles require much frequent attention from me. The poultry have a large yard/field to roam and put themselves to bed at night with an automatic door. I asked aboout predators and was told not to be concerned. The rabbits have a large cage and plenty of bedding - I check on their food and water and bring them some vegetables.
Puppies are much easier than I expected but the family really have a good system set up.

Wow, they’re super lucky to have you sitting all of those critters!
OOH, that is somewhere on my home patch, I have never seen that listing before though.
I am on a lovely sit outside of Toronto, with an older, easy dog. But I wish I stayed in southern CA 2 weeks longer. It is freezing. This winter that started early, and was glad I missed in CA, is still continuing with horrible cold, windy weather.
I’m on a lovely sit here in Javea, Spain. Valencia is getting geared up for the Fallas Festival. Before the big event followed by fireworks they celebrate with dressing up and decorating huge displays with flowers. The falla exhibits are also on display. The best of these gets saved for a museum place whilst the others get to go up in flames.. a bit scary but it’s a big Spanish tradition and certainly spectacular! I’m sitting three cute dogs. One was rescued from a puppy farm and the other two were also rescued. One is very reactive to people and dogs.. don’t think I will be chatting much to locals lol.
I’m perched high up with amazing views all around. There are lots of walks to take the dogs on and it’s off season so pretty quiet.
This looks gorgeous @Highfive - is the weather nice and warm?
I think that is where I want to be next winter.
We are currently on a beautiful countryside sit in Hever, Kent with these two beauties.. Molly & Ned! Parts of the house date back to the 15th century! The older part is all wood and low ceilings and ofcourse my (tall) husband banged his head hard on one of the ceiling beams and was swearing like a trouper! ![]()
![]()
The newer part (19th C) has a ‘drawing room’ with a very high ceiling so he’s much happier in there! Today driving, between here and Sevenoaks, through little hamlets, past Hever castle, passing many gorgeous rural properties & quaint country Pubs, I was reminded of the beauty and charm of English village life!
@Lokstar
One of our first sits was near Hever and the hosts gave us a pass to visit Hever Castle home of Anne Boleyn.
We also visited Chartwell - the former home of Sir Winston Churchill - if you go there look out for Jock the cat …we spotted him sleeping on a bench in one of the walled gardens
If you’re into hidden historic spots and picturesque villages nearby Chiddingstone is like stepping into a Tudor painting - the name has a surprising origin . It’s free to visit and there are lovely tea rooms there .
Thank you for the tips @Silversitters ![]()
@Lokstar Your cat sit sounds just like one I would love as staying in those historical properties that have so much character is often what I look for. With relatives in Sevenoaks, I’m always looking for sits in that area.
I treated myself to an overnight stay in Hever Castle for my birthday one year - wow! A very special experience, full of history.
Is there a ghost? ![]()

@temba That must have been a lovely experience- staying in Hever castle! This house has been modernised internally (& is very clean and easy to maintain) I.e no dark dusty corners!, but all the low beams etc are original. The garage is full of classic cars! And there is a pretty pond that attracts wild ducks. If you like I can DM you the listing details for future reference? They travel a lot- right now at their villa in Mallorca (how the other half live eh?!
)
@BonnyinBrighton I don’t think the ghosts would stand a chance with Ned the cat around! He is has an extremely Regal bearing and plays Lord of the Manor here- I don’t think he’d tolerate them! ![]()

It certainly will @Colin - it looks and sounds amazing. Not jealous at all. Do they accept overnight visitors ![]()
That would be great if you DM’d the listing @Lokstar. Thank you! I wonder if I’ve already favourited it!
