Who is on a house sit just now? How's it going?

@JohnSmiley
At first view, I thought Dexter’s red and orange balls were boots.
Fish I’ve sat have never noticed me. Red eared slider turtles though definitely knew when i approached their pool/tank. I sat 3 in individual pools that ate daily, a few pellets and a romaine leaf for each. I just sat a crew of 4 who were fed a bunch of pellets every other day, but whenever I approached their shared pool they all gathered round. They were progressively sized from about 4 to 9 inches and when they got the order right when climbing on each other they reminded me of Russian matryoshka dolls.
Most recent sit also with a veiled chameleon - I think Benny was very aware of my presence and would watch me while I watched him. The cat and dogs didn’t seem to get his attention.

@Crookie If you get to Dunedin, it is a wonderful little city. Made me think of Scotland a bit. The Otago peninsula on the east side of the bay(?) has an albatross refuge and 2 penguin colonies, little blue fairy penguins who come ashore each evening on the bay side and yellow eyed penguins who nest on the ocean side. The yellow eyed penguin sanctuary has some viewing blinds that allow you to observe nesting birds fairly close.

Hi @toml I agree, Dunedin is lovely, I’ve visited there a couple of times. The Otago Peninsular is spectacular for bird life. Are you aware of the live feed camera on the albatross nest?

This is Lily, she is 20 (possibly 21) years old and still jumping on and off tables and chasing shadows :grinning_cat_with_smiling_eyes:

We just arrived in Mesa, Arizona for three weeks with two real cuties while Mom and Dad enjoy a great cruise to Greenland. We spent yesterday with all of them, getting to know the area as well as their home. This morning they jetted out to start their latest adventure.

Lily and Kaiser are both four years old and the best of friends. They rough house together but Kaiser is never too rough with his little sister. Lily (the little one) loves to terrorize her brother by jumping all over his back when he’s trying to sleep. He doesn’t seem to mind though and she will give up quickly when he doesn’t seem bothered. Afterwards, they both sleep for a couple of hours before starting back up again. Lol.

We are so fortunate to be a part of this great community where we have not only met the greatest of furbabies, but also forged some great new friendships with their hoomans.

Currently in southern Portugal enjoying lots of sun. Two wonderful doggos, the beach, and a pool at a quiet country house.

Kia ora from Tauranga, New Zealand!

Currently on a lovely pet sit with Shelby until October. She’s a cheeky red fox lab, who loves to lounge in bed on the slow weekends.

We’ve been doing walks at local parks and playing fetch down the beach and it’s the sweetest reaction of excitement and tale wags whenever I mention ‘walkies’!

Loves to grab socks to claim them as her own, and needs to wear a muzzle when she goes out to the toilet, as she’s prone to sneaking off to grab and eat avocados that have dropped nearby – learnt quickly she’ll do this at any opportunity she gets

I, too, would sneak off to grab and eat any avocados that have dropped nearby. You and me, Shelby; we’re the same.

Not aware of the cam, but will look for it.

Are avocados good (or at least okay) for dogs? Do you have salsa available for Shelby to make guacamole?

Finishing up a week in Dover, Delaware with George and Gracie (if you are old enough and from the US you will get the reference). They are a pair of half-sibling Boston terriers.
Gracie

George

Gracie took to me immediately, George didn’t spend the night in my bedroom until last night with a very loud thunderstorm.
Dover is the capital of Delaware and a pleasant small city. Three interesting museums.
The Biggs Museum of decorative art is build around a family’s collection. Very large collection of mostly 18th and 19th c American decorative art - furniture, silver, glass, ceramics. There must be a dozen tall (grandfather) clocks.

19th c baby bottle

The Air Mobility Command Museum, located at Dover Air Force Base (best known as the place that US remains are repatriated). Very large collection of transport planes of all sizes - most are outdoors and although usually open for viewing, because of the heat they were all closed.
Air Force 2 from the 1970s used by VPs and first ladies.

C47/DC3 transported paratroopers across the English Channel on D-Day.

And the Johnson Victrola Museum all about the guy who took music recording from Edison cylinders to flat spinning disks. Excellent docent very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the collection. The company got its name ‘Victrola’ because Johnson and partner were in a patent battle with Edison over sound recording processes. The patent judge told them to compromise and when Johnson complained the judge told him to stop complaining that the flat disk was going to prevail and that Johnson was the ‘victor’ of the patent battle.

A few days home, then off to Vermont.

Hi everyone!

We’re Jennifer & James — long-time TrustedHousesitters members, but first-time forum posters.

We’ve been sitting for a while now and are currently on a lovely sit in Dublin, Ireland with sweet Una. Thought it was time to pop in and say hello.

Nice to be here and looking forward to connecting with you all!

I’m sure she’d love that
But avocados contain persin, which consumed in large quantities can be toxic for dogs. Also with all the calories, and Shelby is on a strict diet to loose weight at the moment. Was 50.5kg at the start of the sit and now at 47kg. Aiming for 38kg over 4 months of walks and measured food portions.

Enjoying my 3 weeks on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii with my sweet friend Fefe. I’ve loved going snorkeling and visiting a different beach almost every day. This has been one amazing summer ~

Just finished a sit in DRYMEN, in Loch Lomond Country Park, with a Golden Retriever and a Border Collie. 2 x 2.5 mile walks each day.

I took my secateurs along to trim back overhanging Brambles, Raspeberry and Rose bushes, I hasten to add most of these were on side paths, not on the main WEST HIGHLAND WAY.

A lovable duo.

Just starting a sit after taking months off. I’ve missed sitting cats. My own dog wouldn’t do well with them.

Cat and dog mixes are usually fatal! I’ve sat both simultaneously when they have been brought up together and that is lovely. I had two cats and a dog join me at bedtime.. I felt like Gerald Durrell! One of my favourite sits in a very happy house and garden with appreciative hosts too, of course!
These two look suitably chilled. I like to do some cat sits too.. generally a gentler way to get back in the housesitting saddle after a necessary break!
Maggie8k Enjoy!

Two weeks in Westford, Vermont - about 20 miles northeast from Burlington set in woods with a big lawn surrounding the house. 3 dogs and a cat.
Hiccup is a big brindle X of something. Very happy to relax looking out the window or in the sun on the lawn.

Luna is another X, 7 yo - she really wants to spend her time inside. She sleeps in my bedroom most nights while the others sleep around the house.

Sadie, 5 yo Aussie Shepherd who lives to fetch balls - and she generally will bring them back and drop at your feet. She is the dog who watches me most closely.

One new experience - first time sitting dogs with GPS collars - like electric fence collars, the boundaries are set with a GPS rather than a wire buried in the ground. (This property is far too big and extends into the woods so burying a wire isn’t practical.) The pups know their boundaries and so the collars are not charged but the HO advised me to put them on the dogs so they ‘think’ there are boundaries. Only Sadie and Hiccup wear the collars - Luna doesn’t roam much.
Twix is a big orange tabby who would like to get out, but is staying inside for the sit. She sleeps on my bed - was so active last night that I woke up dreaming I was in an earthquake!

Not my first ‘wilderness’ sit but the first with an air horn and bear repellant next to the doors.
Got to use the HO’s farm share this morning -

I could have taken 2 dozen eggs too, but there are already a dozen and a half in the refrigerator.
Roadsides are blooming with purple, white, and yellow flowers.

Happily just wrapped a nice, uneventful sit — no horrors, no surprises, no filthiness, no crazy pets or so on. Hosts were perfectly communicative and welcoming. This morning, they let me know they got back home safe and sound and extended appreciation and said I’d be welcomed back.

Ho hum. I’m starting to be more grateful for such sits, what with all the stories of sits gone wrong that we hear on the forum.

Miss the sweet kitties.
