Wow you dealt with that brilliantly! I’m
now counting my blessings!
On the positive here I haven’t been bitten by the crew and no one has got out that isn’t allowed out.
Of course we have created our own stink!
As far as the tv is concerned it’s unplugged every time not in use, the volume is set for nil, the controls for all the machinery are high up on a shelf-( nothing is out of reach of these cats but I’m trying! )
Just noticed by the communal gate a list of rules for people living here.. no noise between certain hours, no mess in communal areas, no furniture added to communal areas..
I must be the official bad boy on the block thanks to the antics of a Black cat called Yang. In Spain they are considered unlucky and maybe they’re right about that!
I guess I’ll have to Yin and bear it?
I’ll see myself out.
Smart. I do not do rural locations, but should it ever happen, I´ll definitely keep this in mind. ![]()
In the 2nd week of a 2 week repeat with with a pair of cats in Occidental, California. First sit was only a week with 3 cats, but 4 years later, the 15 year old has passed on.
Addi Mae is a 4 yo Russian blue X who I think was kind of a kitten the last time. Now she is grown and really the most dog-like cat I’ve sat. After about 12 hours she was sitting with me on the couch or on the table watching me work on the computer. She is very pawsy - and loves to touch me - my shoulder, my hands, the back of my head when she is sitting on the back of the chair behind me. She sometime sleeps on the bed but keeps her space at the foot of the bed.
Sahara Sky is a 13 yo Siamese x and seems to take me or leave me. She is usually napping adjacent to whatever window is the sunniest.
The house is in a redwood forest with a wonderful deck with giant trees going through it. And the weather has been perfect for time on the deck.
Nearest town is Sebastopol with some good restaurants and a great ‘French’ bakery - crusty bread, croissants …
And 10 miles but 30 minutes west is the coast - Bodega Bay and Schoolhouse Beach.
I stepped away from the couch for a short while yesterday and came back to my current housemate considering my choice of book.
It’s one I borrowed from the host. I had no idea of the storyline but ironically it turns out it’s set in Eastern Canada, where I visited for the first time just a couple of weeks ago. My tour included visiting the information centre of the indigenous people who are at the centre of the story. What a coincidence.
Maybe this is a new way to pick the next books for the book club? Leave it to the pets to decide?
It does happen to all of at times. You handled it very well, so don’t spend too much time second guessing any of it. Glad the pup was current on vaccinations, so important!
OMG the TORTIE ![]()

I have a soft spot for tortitude!!!
She’s just lovely!
IMO she’s an improved version of tortitude. Not very vocal and softest meowing you can imagine, although one of the owners reports her screaming like mad when her wet food is being prepared. She’s beginning to feel it’s personal because she doesn’t do that with the other owner, who came later than the cat. Fascinating!
Also, they warned me that the Siamese enjoyed chatting at 4 am. It only happened the first night and that was 2 weeks ago. No more chatting at night.
Pets’ behaviour will never stop fascinating me. ![]()
I booked a filler, as I am spending the summer in Toronto, helping a long time friend out with her cats while she travels to visit her sister in last stages of cancer. When she comes back, I take a sit, until I go pick up my daughter in DC. This is a 6 day sit in Toronto, apt. Not the tidiest. Sweet dog. Trail across the street, so it is easy peasy to walk him. Not the greatest sit I have ever had. And it made me reread the post I made about above average sits. When you are in a 6 bed, 7 bath house with cleaning staff, pool, hot tub, great outdoor sitting area and then sit in a a one bed apt, no in apt laundry. It makes you realize the difference in sits. This fit the timeframe, the location, and nice dog. But not the first choice I would have made. But that is difference when you just choose the sits for vacation. Next up on my plate.
Yep, and that modest one bedroom apartment in Toronto probably runs at least $2000 a month according to current stats.
In the comparison you’re making, the only thing that matters to me is not being able to do the laundry in the apartment.
I sit solo and only need one bedroom and one bathroom.
For me,
Lies more in pets and the host’s attitude.
I have a minimum level of comfort threshold and past that, the rest is not really important. Especially number of bedrooms and bathrooms that I won’t use.
Some may recall my dramatic sit last month in which Stuart the Dacshund tangled with 2 baby skunks. One of the skunks was picked up by animal rescue. I have been monitoring his status by following the organization’s social media. He completed his quarantine period and has been moved to a place with some other skunk companions.
I really don’t like being in the master or use the master bath. Otherwise it isn’t about the size. It is about the cleanliness.
Glasgow, UK – one lovely cat. Having a brilliant time!
What a fabulous photo it looks good enough for a magazine cover!
