Hospitable and thoughtful hosts at the sit I’ve just started:
• Sent me their flight info and welcome guide well ahead of our sit. We also made sure I’d arrive a day ahead to get acquainted and do a handoff.
• Sent airport shuttle info unasked and volunteered to pay for the $80USD round trip. When I got to their house, they had a $100 bill ready for me, unasked.
• Took me to a lovely dinner right after I arrived. Then pointed out noteworthy spots I might visit or shop at as we headed home.
• Their dog is exactly as sweet and easygoing as described. She’s older, isn’t car friendly and is mellow and super easy to care for.
• They clearly indicated that they don’t expect me to stay at home all the time. They left me a folder full of info about sights, restaurants, nearby road trips, etc. They also got me a pass to use all the amenities in their huge, resort-like community.
• They showed me where their dog’s plentiful treats and food are. Also said if I buy anything for her, they’d reimburse me.
• They showed me where the closest supermarket and their vet are. Also showed me the emergency turnoffs for utilities at home.
• I stayed in a guest room last night, but today they changed all linens in the master bedroom, because they wanted me to move in and enjoy the nicest bathroom and bedroom, with a view of their butterfly garden. They cleared out space for my stuff in the walk-in closet and bathroom. They offered all that unasked.
• They offered me breakfast and lunch at home and told me to eat whatever I like from their fridge and pantry.
• I dropped them off nearby this afternoon, to catch the airport shuttle. They’ll do the same when I leave. Meanwhile, I get to use their car, golf cart and bicycle during my sit. They offered those, all unasked. On the way while dropping them off, the husband thoughtfully showed me where the hidden release is for the gas cap door to the car, which saved me hunting. As we said goodbye, he told me to have fun and don’t worry if I ding the car or such.
And BTW, I’m their first THS sitter.
