Who's on a house sit now? How's it going?

I love that face!

I am still looking after this adorable little “monkey” and her brother…

… and now, since a few days ago, also after this clearly abandoned kitty which I found near my building, dirty, starving, with an injured nose, and begging for food. How can people be so cruel and just abandon their pets to go on holiday? (which is clearly the case here) It’s heartbreaking to see this kitty in such a state while her humans enjoy a summer vacation somewhere else.

Yesterday, I saw some other good Samaritans feeding her. So I am not alone :smile_cat:

Today we did an epic drive over moorland to a wonderful tea garden in the middle of nowhere - it turns out the owner is about to join THS so if you are looking for a gorgeous remote location in North Yorkshire, watch out for a sit with a dog (a sweet Patterdale) and 6 goats (who need milking).

My first time cat sitting in the United States. Although I’m an American I’ve only cat sat in Europe, Asia and Australia thus far. I’m hanging out with this little lady in Georgia her name is Sweet Pea she enjoys eating, chit chatting and napping.

We on a short repeat sit with two of our favourite Scottie dogs, Finlay and Charlie this weekend. Here’s Finlay happy to see my older son!

Hospitable and thoughtful hosts at the sit I’ve just started:

• Sent me their flight info and welcome guide well ahead of our sit. We also made sure I’d arrive a day ahead to get acquainted and do a handoff.

• Sent airport shuttle info unasked and volunteered to pay for the $80USD round trip. When I got to their house, they had a $100 bill ready for me, unasked.

• Took me to a lovely dinner right after I arrived. Then pointed out noteworthy spots I might visit or shop at as we headed home.

• Their dog is exactly as sweet and easygoing as described. She’s older, isn’t car friendly and is mellow and super easy to care for.

• They clearly indicated that they don’t expect me to stay at home all the time. They left me a folder full of info about sights, restaurants, nearby road trips, etc. They also got me a pass to use all the amenities in their huge, resort-like community.

• They showed me where their dog’s plentiful treats and food are. Also said if I buy anything for her, they’d reimburse me.

• They showed me where the closest supermarket and their vet are. Also showed me the emergency turnoffs for utilities at home.

• I stayed in a guest room last night, but today they changed all linens in the master bedroom, because they wanted me to move in and enjoy the nicest bathroom and bedroom, with a view of their butterfly garden. They cleared out space for my stuff in the walk-in closet and bathroom. They offered all that unasked.

• They offered me breakfast and lunch at home and told me to eat whatever I like from their fridge and pantry.

• I dropped them off nearby this afternoon, to catch the airport shuttle. They’ll do the same when I leave. Meanwhile, I get to use their car, golf cart and bicycle during my sit. They offered those, all unasked. On the way while dropping them off, the husband thoughtfully showed me where the hidden release is for the gas cap door to the car, which saved me hunting. As we said goodbye, he told me to have fun and don’t worry if I ding the car or such.

And BTW, I’m their first THS sitter.

@Maggie8K When you have a moment, please share a photo of the dog.

She’s black and the lighting isn’t great for photos. This is the best one so far.

She LOVES to stay close when humans are in the house.

She was fortunate to be adopted not so long ago. According to her family: Whoever had her before apparently dumped her outside in the heat and just left. Vet says she’s had a number of litters before.

A weeklong sit in Oriental, NC - very comfortable house with a gray parrot, a military macaw and 2 cats. The back of the house opens to the Neuse River as it flows to the Atlantic. There were going to be 3 dogs, too but the HOs took them along as they begin their move to a new home in western NC. Great welcome from the HOs.

Charlotte, the military macaw

Tellico, the African gray

Unlike my first parrot sit, this pair is always caged so I sit in the office and let them talk to me.

Margo, an Egyptian mau - very friendly, lots of lap time

Oscar, who turns tail whenever he sees me

Next sit is a short ferry ride away!

@Sam_F Thanks, its a wonderful wide world, seeing Sitters zootopia of pets and wildlife.

My previous sit in June included a South African tortoise - my first time learning to care for one.

Oh dear, younger son is trapped part way through putting his socks on. Charlie decided that spot where his leg had previously been was the ideal place to take a nap!

I had a fall early on during this current sit that’s just ended, and resulting in lots of purple and green bruises and a very hurty knee. The cat and dog subsequently would often come and sniff my knee and look at me with worried expressions which was very kind of them. The cat took to licking my toes …. a kind of calming reflexology?

Oh no! @BonnyinBrighton, I am so sorry that happened to you. And it was your first THS sit too, wasn’t it? Onwards and upwards …

@DavidZ081 I’m looking forward to my first tortoise sit at the end of July in Tucson. Along with a yellow lab and 2 cats. I’m on my second parrot sit now - and the first was just 2 weeks ago.
