My Charlotte sit went from 2 weeks to 1 night because the HO had an emergency and ended up cancelling her trip. But all okay - HO offered to pay for an air bnb for a few nights- only 100 miles from home so I declined and she gave me gas money instead. And HO and I got the sit adjusted so I can apply for another sit for these dates.
Did get to enjoy the pups for a day! And get my Red Cross platelet donation in and had a slice of maybe the best key lime pie I’ve ever eaten and discover a great coffee shop with a good baker!
Lucy, 14 yo Pomeranian (maybe), a very small sweet dog, really looks like a puppy.
@Colin I did a short sit a few weeks ago in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. A cat and 6 runner ducks, the dog went along on the HOs’ trip. Over 4 days I never saw the cat who had a cat flap. I did see that cat food was eaten but the cat was fed outside so it could have been other creatures eating the cat food. It had me worried because at night there were various and sundry large wild things, even including bears. But apparently the cat was fine because my treatment of her was praised in the review. The ducks were safely put away every day at sunset.
@Jenny Very easy - the brown guy is a drake and he keeps the five ducks in line. They free range all over the yard and garden all day but shortly before sunset they come close to the house and the shed that has their ‘coop’ inside. I also scatter some dried meal worms if they don’t seem to want to go inside but they always seemed happy to be put away for the night.
On a fabulous sit in gorgeous Cambridge, New Zealand (home to a number of recent Olympic medalists in rowing, kayaking and cycling) with fantastic walking tracks and river walks.
Jock, the 13yr old Scottish Terrier, is an absolute delight. Loves his walks, his balls and ropes and of course his food.
On top of Jock the house is incredible. Designed in 2022 it has the most beautiful furnishings, it’s like my own little piece of luxury living (for 5wks anyway). HO’s are also warm and wonderfully engaging.
I hit one of those imaginary jackpots with this fantastic sit.
Back in Charlotte, NC for 6 days with Lady, a 12 yo chow chow, pittie, shepherd mix (PP were very specific about this, I think they did a DNA test). A really laid back dog - I’d been told it might take her 24 hours to get up close with me - it actually took about 15 minutes.
But, she doesn’t really want much attention.
Fun sit - found a great neighborhood Balkan restaurant/grocery store. Had a Romanian lager (named for a Romanian mountain range) with dinner.
Lady
My hosts had their grown son stop by to mow their grass.
Meanwhile, the laziest dog I’ve ever sat is like, zzzzzzzzz. But she eventually wakes to see him off and then bark, bark, bark for baby carrots, because labor has been done and wages must be paid. OK, not her labor, but so what? She’s the boss lady, after all.
(When we were chatting, my hosts’ son said she even bosses his Weimaraners around. And she’s only 13 pounds of fluff.)
We’re 2 weeks into a 4 week sit in the Emilio Reggio region of Italy. Surrounded by beautiful mountains of lush greens, it’s been a treat coming from arid Spain. But the real treat is taking care of two very sweet affectionate kitties.
She reminds me of Ewoks from Star Wars. That and a cross with a piranha, given how she gobbles food.
It’s funny to see — like her humans told me to toss handfuls of salad mix or other greens on the floor, because she loves them. She vacuums them right up.
I’ve had several sits where instructions call for adding some canned string beans or most recently a spoonful of canned pumpkin. I’m inclined to try this with my brother’s pair that I’ll be sitting for 2 weeks.
