Patiently waiting for my Oscar in the category of “Best Performance for Treats”.
Hi. Thank you! We’re fine but no power. Glad you made it through the storm too!
Thank you!
I am glad you and the cats are ok…and hope you will have power soon.
A few years back I sat a dog and cat on Naples Island in Long Beach, CA. There was a cat flap and the cat I was sitting and the neighbor cat would go back and forth between houses, I think depending on which food bowl was most recently filled. The dog got along with both cats.
We just finished up our two week sit at a house by the river Thames . Everyday we walked sections of the Thames path with the dogs ( one of our 2024 goals ). We loved the peace and tranquillity of being by the river . Being away from roads and traffic we saw all sorts of wildlife (red kites, swifts, migrating flocks of geese , parakeets, swans and the elusive iridescent kingfisher ) We also saw things that we hadn’t expected to see - cows paddling in the river and a giant rubber ducky!( see photos )
We stopped at some of the Victorian locks along our route . These were interesting to visit and the dogs enjoyed it too because the lock-keepers gave them dog treats.
Whilst we sat and enjoyed tea or read books on the deck at the end of the garden a vast array of rowing boats, narrow boats, cruisers ,house boats, speed boats, dutch barges, party boats(including a wedding), canoes , paddle boarders and swimmers went by . All giving us a friendly wave . Over the fortnight we heard many complements about “our”
lovely house
From your photo @Colin the water level looks really high this weekend and it’s probably not even possible to walk on the tow path now- there certainly has been a lot of rainfall this last week !
We are currently in conversation with another host about a sit on another section of the Thames Path for next year . THS has given us so many unique opportunities.
Great to have a change of accommodation @Colin. I’m looking after a relative of your pup in November only weighing 1.4kg who’s very precious to her owners. In comparison, her Maine Coon companion is huge!
@Silversitters - it is! They have had to build a bridges to get to the boats as the footpaths are flooded - the water here is where the path should be!
Wow - that is an interesting chapter for when you write your memoir.
Yes! That’s what’s happening. LOL
@Colin I know we’ve had a lot of rain and some cities have flooded but that doesn’t look like Croydon ?
@Colin
Is this a canal boat, 7 ft wide, or something different for the river?
In the late 1980s my father spent 1 week of a month long trip on the Michael Collins, a 7 ft by 42 ft long on the Shropshire Union and Llangollen canals. We went as far as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (because we had to cross it). I couldn’t fathom why a British canal boat would be named for an Irish Republican leader. When we got to the boatyard and saw the other boats were the John Glenn, Alan Shepherd … they were all named for US astronauts.
@Silversitters - lol no, we have split up for a couple of days to squeeze a non THS sit in.
Yes, I think it is a canal boat.
On a 10 day local sit for my brother with his pair of pups. Gizmo and Boudreaux are old pals.

Boudreaux
Next week heading to the SF East Bay (very east, halfway to Sacramento) to sit a cat quartet.
@avocadotoast A quartet of admirers!
You will find out if either of you actually walks on water
I,m dipping his feet in concrete as we speak
We’ve done a few holidays on a narrowboat (canal boat) and would love to do a housesit on one, or a houseboat @Colin. It looks like a narrowboat with a few adaptations. The front looks unusually rounded, normally they are pointed. I’m assuming the right end in your photo is the front, as I think I see the tiller at the other end.
I do much better on boats on canals and rivers than on the sea!
