Who's on a house sit now? How's it going?

I was really lucky to meet a little French Bulldog puppy the day I arrived…isn’t this a sweety? (Baby girl got picked up though by her new owners before my HO left.)

On my very first sit in the DC area with two lovely kitties. One of the two (the more social one!?!) hid for 24 hours, prompting me to text the owner for hints to coax him out. Eventually he got hungry enough to appear.

Experiencing major laryngitis so the only noise in the condo is the cats speaking to one another.

Third sit in Australia - Mentone, a suburb SE of Melbourne-about 1.5 km from the beach.
Sitting with Sunny, a big beagle (my prior experience has been with the smaller ones). He is about 2 years old now and very friendly - people, other dogs, the birds in the back yard.
But he did spot the cat on the roof next door through the bedroom window yesterday afternoon and got very excited!
First day of sit was very hot - about 95F. Friendly person offered me a ride home from the grocery store. Weather broke overnight and it is about 70F now!

Meeting up with Temba and FaithLotus on Friday at the Botanic Garden!
Had planned to take the overnight train from Melbourne to Sydney mid-Jan for the flight back to the US. Only to discover when I went to book the ticket that the the 11 hour train ride has become a 13 hour bus ride because they are doing track work. Ugh! Fortunately was able to burn some AA miles (only 10,000 - kind of a bargain) for a Qantas flight.

Well this year got my dream Xmas sit.I am now all the way up in Northern Norway looking after two cats. Even though there is 60 cm snow one of the cats a lovely tabby with the most amazing brown eyes, still insists on have little trots outside. But every time she re-realises dang its cold out here. So what she does is, goes out of the house down the stairs across the road (its a very quiet side road) and goes and sniffs around on the opposite neighbours porch until her paws probably start tingling. Then she spurts back down their stairs and dives across the road like shes being chased by a banshee and dives back into her lovely warm house. . Her sister is a lovely golden tortoiseshell but very shy kitty who has mostly kept herself hidden away for the last week or so . Comes out ok for food etc and sometimes has a mad 5 minutes but usually just keeps very much to herself

On a repeat sit with 4 dogs and 4 cats in North England, weather is terrible but the cottage is very cozy so everyone is fast asleep in the living room and I’m watching Disney+. It’s been a hard couple of months and spending time alone with animals is definitely the best medicine for me at the moment, it’s the calmest I’ve felt for a while!

We are just finishing our Christmas housesit. Only 25 minutes from our home but it could be a world away! 2 cute Scottie dogs and a cat in a tiny riverside village.

Gorgeous pics @Debbie,… A picture really does say a 1000 words including you don’t have to travel far to have enjoyable and different house and pet sitting experiences …

Thank you so much for sharing and a very Happy New Year to you and the family. :dog: :cat: :grinning:

Yes a real bonus indeed as they only come when they feel like it and not at the flick of a switch as some peeps actually seem to think (i heard asked, what time are they at ???) . So consider myself very lucky and thankful. They are back again tonight so stood on the little balcony and watched/waited for them for half and hour with a warm cup of tea .
Love being here but unfortunately managed also to get a light touch of frostbite in a couple of fingers the others day (whilst out trying to clear a path to the road and be able to get the bins out. Hurts like …………… and could take a while for it to work itself out and for the nerves to calm back down again . So future sitters be aware. Take care when out shoveling the snow, the cold is very sneaky and you won’t feel whats its doing as quick if you’re busy and thinking you’re warm because of all the moving you’re doing.

Hope you thaw out soon and are fortunate enough to see more amazing light shows.

I got the chance to do an amazing 10km walk high up in the mountains in Southern Spain today. Perfect way to reflect on the year’s highlights.

I spend Christmas and New Year in Rome sitting for Totti and Pirlo, two black playful cats. Enjoyable!

Hi @KiwiSwede
I’m in Rangiora, a suburb of Christchurch. I’ll be sitting/travelling in the South Island until 30 April.
I was in Napier in 2019 and cycled around some of those vineyards!

Oh @Maggie! Just for a change I’m not making oooh and aaah noises about the pets; the Northern Lights have long been on my bucket list & I’m insanely jealous.

Meanwhile, we are on a sit in an unidentified location with 2 doggies who use the hallway as their toilet . These things happen but a bit of prior warning from the owners would have been nice.

I’m a Christchurch (mature) girl born and bred so know where you are talking about. Since the earthquakes, that area has become extremely popular! All my family (except my brother in Nelson) are in the North Island so have ulterior motives for staying in Auckland! Enjoy your time here in NZ
