Why no applicants?

@charris, can you connect your listing in your profile? People here can take a look at it, maybe give some feedback.

I agree with this feedback. As it is, I have a sit for that weekend in the DC area already as I have to be in DC for work. You may wish to consider offering to have a dog walker come by so the sitter doesn’t have to rush back (6 hours is not unreasonable, but it can be stressful to get ‘home’ in time due to traffic and transportation issues etc.).

if you can help me know how to do that I’ll be glad to

Here you go @charris

How can I make “Heart of the City - Half Block to Metro” more clear that it is indeed in the Heart of the City?

@victoriamck
That phrase is very specific to a downtown area. If you are looking to pinpoint your location, maybe you can add a historical landmark and or a popular restaurant nearby to your home.

Example:

“We live in (or near) the central part of the city, where you will have the metro available to you closeby. We have an ideal location”.

Hope this helps

Hi there,
I just read your profile for the first time, and it sounds like a nice sit but I’m rather confused by the responsibilities for the dog. When you say the dog has “cognitive issues” and that you need “an experienced person who can anticipate and understand her issues” - I have no idea what this means. What kind of ‘issues’ and what, exactly, do I need to be experienced in?? All I understand about the dog from your listing is that she has anxiety, takes pills and has ‘issues.’ This is very vague and may put sitters off from applying because we are left rather in the dark about what to expect and what the dog’s specific care needs are. It may be beneficial for you to be more specific and clarify what this means. What do I simply and clearly need to DO for this dog??

Your intro is also rather short & vague and doesn’t do much to immediately tell sitters why they should sit for you. I would rather be told what I am gaining from this sit and why I should choose this sit over something else than click an external link to read an autobiography about you & what you do… We are here for the sit, not to know facts and details about your life. A good intro hooks sitters from the first line and reads like an exciting advert. For example:

“Do you want plenty of time to explore all that D.C has to offer? Do you want to be in a central location close to all D.C’s museums, restaurants and city life? Do you love cats and dogs, and have patience for an elderly dog? Then this is this is the sit for you! Hi, I’m (name) and I’m a novelist in central D.C seeking a reliable sitter to keep my pets company while I’m away.”

In a world where we are already busy enough, and people have increasingly shorter attention spans, being as clear, direct and upfront as possible is best. Truth is, not many people are going to take the time to click an external link to read all about you, or wait around to find out more info about the dog, especially as most sitters apply to multiple listings at once to get the dates and locations they’re seeking.

Hope that helps :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks, but I do say “half-block to Columbia Heights Metro.” So anyone can easily see the location.

Wow, lots of words, but thanks. I have over 100 people who have saved my listing, so I know now it is simply an issue of the availability for the dates I need.

I recently had an amazing sit just outside of DC and can’t wait to go back for a visit. I noticed that the search really gives me anything in a reasonable distance.
With summer coming I think also the warm
Weather might hinder sitters if they are coming to do the tourist travel.
