Will a THS accept a couch to sleep on?

@Peonie19 Yes, really. Personal preference. For me, even in buying homes / renting apartments, they have to have 2 bathrooms. Always good to have an extra bathroom in case something goes wrong with the plumbing. And that has happened on more than one occasion.

I see, your point re: the plumbing makes sense.
I was just thinking that in a highly sought after big city where space is at a premium, especially in Europe, it might be rare.
But, to each their own.

To the people who wrote about 2 bathrooms: is this common in your countries?

In most European countries, this will be a rare exception. Most apartments have one bathroom, even if there are 3 bedrooms for example.

Your reference to apartments in European countries sounds like a tv sictom that I was watching whereby 4 people shared one bathroom. Just hope not all 4 have to use the bathroom at the same time. :joy:And what if something goes wrong with the plumbing?

In the U.S. there are a variety of apartments / mobile homes / condominiums / townhomes that are 1 bedroom/ 1 bath; 2 bedroom / 2 bath or 3 bedroom / 3 bath or (as you mention) even 3 bedroom / 1 bath. And the same can be stated for some houses.

In my country, unless it’s a fairly new home, there is generally only one bathroom. I don’t find that strange at all and rarely have I encountered two bathrooms in other countries.

Growing up in my home, six children and the parents shared the same bathroom and it’s not uncommon Never ever heard of there being an issue of “what if something goes wrong with the plumbing”. Sounds weird to me, is that really a thing???

Can’t speak for the rest of Europe, the plumbing in the UK is fine.
We even have a choice of hot and cold water, through the taps .
The toilets flush at the press of a button or a turn of a handle.

We have come a long way since Hadrian and his mates :smiley:

Unlike in the US, I have never heard Europeans discussing plumbing. I have never heard anyone in Europe requesting two bathrooms in small apartments just in case the plumbing wouldn’t work in one of them. Convenience, yes, but plumbing, never. What does this tell me? There must be something very unEuropean about the quality of US plumbing.

If something is wrong with the plumbing, you can use a bucket as a toilet

Hmm. If you work in an office, you have to share bathrooms too, right?

almost seems that way, eh?

A bucket each maybe? :grinning:

That might be slightly more hygienic.

As long as said buckets have lids. No plumbing to flush out otherwise.

Sneak the contents into a bin at night, like with dog poop?
Or a manhole in the street?
Poo bags might help too

Yes, it really is a thing. Older homes had plumbing issues related to pipe issues, but contemporary improvements have been made. Again personally, I am just not taking any chances on taking a sit that has one bathroom.

I grew up in a family of four and we all had to share one bathroom in a house. And yes, we had plumbing issues --probably why I feel the way I do now.

It is all what we are exposed to in life.

And just because you have not experienced it, does not mean others have not.

@Penni yes THS will accept this as long as it’s made clear in the listing that this is the only bed available for the sitter to use .

It may restrict the number of sitters that apply - however if it’s in a popular location it might not be so much of an issue . Especially if all other aspects of the sit responsibilities are straightforward.

You won’t know for sure until it’s listed .
