I was offered a sit. Arranged call (difficult as I’m in a remote area on holiday). HO lets slip that they don’t take their cats to the vet and has no idea whether they’re up to date on vaccines (including required by law here, rabies, and they go outside).
So I say, I’m not comfortable with that so no thank you. I “decline” the invitation. Why, then, is HO able to “reject” my application?!
Also BTW, THS, the app and website are soooo difficult to get onto when you don’t have great Wifi available. I’ve been trying for days to get into the site. It requires far too much bandwidth.
Even though you didn’t submit an application, as the host invited you they can subsequently decline the invite which the software processes as a rejected application. It’s buggy as you already know. Don’t take it personally.
Honestly, this sounds like semantics? You didn’t want the sit and declined so who cares if they then rejected? It’s probably an app thing and was hanging out there so they had to reject to make it go away. Neither of you wanted the sit , so again who cares and move on?
I think you still have to withdraw your application after declining. Otherwise they would have to decline your application in order to remove it. But it really doesn’t matter, that’s just the odd way the THS platform is set up.
I’m also very confused about what the issue here. Also there is no “reject” in the app or the website. It’s withdraw an offer, cancel, decline, but no “reject.”
If they invited you privately, they are inviting you to apply. If you accepted the invitation to apply and then they offered you the sit but you said “no thanks” eg you weren’t going to confirm, they would need to withdraw the offer. If you hit decline on the application they shouldn’t have had to do anything but it’s a glitchy site and maybe they needed to decline your invitation to get other applicants. In any case, this looks like you were personally insulted by them and none of this is personal.
I’m also wondering if their listing goes against the terms as they have no plan for vet care and the pets go outside but are not vacinated. You could let member services know about that as it really places the sitter in a bad position.
A reject from a host is not seen on your profile if that’s your concern. They just beat you to the punch of you hitting the withdrawal button. As soon as you are cleared it opens up for another applicant to apply. I bet they were just anxious to get it cleared so it didn’t reach 5 applicants and go into reviewing. Some hosts start reviewing before it officially goes into review which they may have done with you.
This is how I viewed the post. It’s not about feeling rejected or insulted it’s a matter of questioning why additional steps need to be taken that seem unnecessary. Indeed even the process of confirming a sit seems to require extra unneeded steps by both parties.
Yes there are several steps but I think the process was changed because previously a sitter could apply for a sit and be confirmed immediately by the host. The extra steps ensure that there is time for discussion prior to confirmation.
Some of the wording is misleading - my view is that an application is really an expression of interest at that point.
Some confusion arises because a host will confirm a sitter and they think that is the end of the process. A sit isn’t confirmed until the sitter accepts and the sit shows in the host and sitter calendar.
No, OP was clear they withdrew (there was a clarifying post - which they now deleted - they clearly withdrew). For some reason they are upset that HO then rejected them after they withdrew. As others have noted it’s probably just how the app functions, nothing to take personally as it seemed their original post did (maybe they just worded it wrong?) Otherwise it seems immature to care who rejects you after you decline them.
@Felinelover There was nothing in the Ops post that indicated upsetment. It appears she was just looking for clarification as to how the process works, as it seems cumbersome with extra steps that seem unnecessary.
I wonder if the sitter and HO simultaneously hit the NO option. Kind of like when more than 5 applications can get in sometimes if more are started at the same time.
