So we’ve all handled quite a range! What is the worst breed of dog when it comes to naughtiest?
The Big? The Bad? And The Ugly?
Please share the stories and enlighten us!
I once took care of a beagle and he is definitely on the top of my naughty list.
On top of my “most boring” list are definitely Salukis. They are basically like cats minus their playfulness.
Oh very disappointed to read about Salukis.. they look so beautiful and are speed kings.. didn’t expect them to be dull!
We looked after a Beagle pup called Bella but ironically she transformed more often into the Beast! Dug up everywhere, chewed everything, scratched everyone and used her needle teeth to devastating effect!
Admittedly she was good on a walk .. once thoroughly exhausted by a hike beforehand! She was a serious handful and not popular with the pack.. they did not take to the boisterous new boy who could bark up every tree, never mind only the wrong ones!
Yes, Speed kings, ha! They speed up once a day for 5 to 10 minutes, then back to sleep for the rest of the 23 hours and 45 minutes a day.
Worst dog breed? Any puppy! !
Any ‘oodle’ dog due to their separation anxiety normally resulting in lots of barking as they are typically velcro dogs. Also they tend to be lead pullers when walked. After my last ‘oodle’ sit I said never again.
I agree–not a fan of any of the overly bred Doodles.
A bernerdoodle was my worst…
we have been fortunate to look after (and own) some truly fabulous dogs. the substantial majority bring us huge amounts of joy. but a small subset have been learning experiences.
‘dog sleeps in human bed’ … ‘dog has separation anxiety’ … ‘dog cannot be left alone for more than brief periods’ … ‘dog is highly reactive on leash’ … ugh ugh ugh ugh
All the dogs I’ve pet sat for have been pretty good, but from personal experience, certain kinds of Terriers are the worst. Like Jack Russells or mixes of Jack Russells, for example. High strung, bark alot, sometimes aggressive. But I don’t like to generalize because there are always exceptions to every breed. My favorite breed is Golden Retriever.
any dog not well trained or behaved is my worst breed. I’ve sat for well behaved mixed breeds and awful trainable breeds.
Dogs that pull like MAD on a lead (we’ve had some that could dislocate my shoulder!), bark at anyone and everyone/everything, jump on people, jump up and eat food off the counter…those are the worst breeds.
I love ANY well trained breed!!
Very true I don’t write a breed off just because I’ve experienced a very challenging example. Also challenging behaviour isn’t always the dog’s fault. But you are left to deal with it!
Golden Retrievers are lovely, in my experience but not properly trained can result in shoulder injuries. They are big strong dogs with a lot of power. A smaller nightmare can at least be picked up! Ha ha!
I avoid large dogs, because I couldn’t easily pick up or control one that’s been triggered or is a leash-puller. Or if they were incapacitated and I needed to rush them to the vet.
I also tried sitting year-old dogs on separate sits (both included cats, too) and found the dogs exhausting, especially because I telecommute full time. Doing video meetings with a dog going boing-boing-boing in the background or trying to play-bite to engage you is not work-compatible. I sit solo, so there’s no one to hand off a dog to, like at home, where my husband can distract our dog if needed.
I don’t do Brachycephalic breeds as they are far more likely to have health issues and I (and the RSPCA and Royal Veterinary College) believe their very existence is an exercise in cruelty (cue indignant owners now…).
