A 'no pet' sit with wild birds and hedgehogs

Do it all the time with great pleasure. It’s fascinating. Have fed foxes, hedgehogs, Badgers, all manner of birds and fowl, stray cats and who knows what lurks out there in the moonlight.

Hi @Jilly,
I used to volunteer at a hedgehog rescue group, raising young and rehoming, something I really enjoyed so much! My husband Michael and I would love a sit like yours taking care of some and birds etc. How exciting that you have them in your garden. You must have a perfect habitat for them!

Hi @Jilly because of the impact of storm season for most of the sit period the sit responsibilities are that sitters aren’t away over night (we had flooding in our building this year that put the frights in to us, otherwise we wouldn’t have needed sitters at all)

We would love to do a sit like that if the dates would fit with our plans.

We are very flexible and would certainly love to clean up hedgehog poo if needs be.
We’ve never seen any in the wild so that would be a treat. No pet commitment means you have freedom to explore a new area. What a joy. We’d sit for you…

Hedgehogs are endearing little animals. I’ve taken care of wild birds when I did wildlife Rehabilitation, and have maintained feeders for folks as well. This community is diverse and unique which is what makes it great. Years back I was a volunteer in the educational department of the San Francisco zoo who had rescued some exotic pet’s including a Hedgehog naked Chanel. I would take her to an area an observe her for potential issues. It was a rewarding experience.

Although I mainly look for cats when house sitting I usualy put birds, poultry, fishes and even all exept dog. I would also put hedgehogs and squirrels if it was possible, wild birds and hedgehogs would make up for a cat if the opportunity rise.
ps. I love all animals, but the reason I don’t do dogs is sadly that I can’t clean up the poo when walking them, I throw up.

Hi @KJ52

What a shame, not the most pleasant of jobs but an unavoidable part of dog sitting and having a furry family member. I have a friend who is exactly the same she doesn’t know why, she has a dog and has improvised … she gets her partner to do it! In the absence of a helper one of these tips might help.

Thank you for your reply.
My wife is doing the house sits with me and if we would do a house sit where there is a cat/cats and a dog she would propably do the unplesant thing for me. But as we are both more cat people our first choice would be where there are cats.
