Would ‘What Three Words’ (app) help?
A HO recently sent me his location down to the square metre using this app.

Right away when I joined THS I searched for house sits on Dartmoor and found this same thing out. So another request for this from the sitter side.

It is refreshing that some Owners would like a more accurate location for their homes on THS. From a Sitter’s perspective, when doing a search, what comes across the “loudest” is the name of the town/city beneath the initial Owner’s photo, and then the banner title when I click on a listing. Even if the town beneath the photo is incorrect, the banner title can clearly state the more accurate location. Or if the town is sort of unknown, the title can say something like “20 miles from central London” and the Owner can provide more details in the “home location” section of the listing. Vague details lead me to believe that the Owner is trying to hide something, so please don’t be that Owner! Please be as informative as possible especially with information that is absolutely factual like your home’s location! This is not a gray area; it’s not a judgment call. It is black and white. Should be very simple.

Agree completely. JFK (or even LGA!) are more convenient for some locations, but for the city, Newark makes waaaay more sense.

I love W3W it’s such an incredible undertaking and SOOOOOO useful!

If I was listing as a homeowner, I would certainly search my own listing and check that it was as I’d expected. I get a sense that not all owners (or sitters) do that. Today was not the first time that I notified member services of a listing that missed some vital wording for their location and came into my saved searches for the wrong country. Needless to say, these homeowners would not have been found by those looking for sits in their true location. Just a suggestion - search yourself - owners and sitters - and make sure the listing and photos display as you’d intended. :slightly_smiling_face:

Absolutely @Snowbird and very sound advice. For as long as I’ve been helping people with house sitting I’ve always said over and over to sitters to double check profiles, just as you would a job application and make it the best you possibly can. And see this as an ongoing process of perfection. But it’s equally important for owners to check, double check and perfect their listings, and not just once but every time they change a date to make sure all information is up-to-date and accurate.

Vanessa …As well as the Dartmoor Issue which is crazy … somewhere it says the issue with villages relates to Google maps. We are actually in South Zeal half way between Chagford and Okehampton … but the system would not allow this. Whatever the reason it is not google maps.
I sHould say that “ Dartmoor” is also recognised by google maps … and would be by anyone applying in the UK as would Dartmoor National Park …. But noone basically knows about Dartmoor Forest.

Hi folks - been on THS since last year, great experience to date. Just seeking thoughts about how to handle where we live. You see, we live in Wales…which is not a country between England and Ireland, but a small village in South Yorkshire. Which can, as you might imagine, cause some confusion. So to date we’ve given our location as the village next door…which isn’t quite right either.
How would others handle this as HO, and what do sitters think would work best?
Open to suggestions…
All the best

What about putting the coordinates (easy to find out with Google or Apple Maps) in your profile? Like this a sitter can copy and paste them back to Google Maps and see exactly where you are located.

In Africa, where we travel to often, this is quite common, because sometimes there are no addresses at all, just names and it can be quite confusing to find the place you want to go to.

Have you used the app “what three words”? Brilliant concept. Each square of the earth has a three word assigned to it. Using the app it will give you directions to that square. We have introduced lots of pet owners to this as we use it all the time.

Thanks folks - couple of good ideas to pin down our location…but I thought the idea was not to give your EXACT location in the profile, and was wondering if I should put ‘Wales’ and then try to clear up the inevitable misunderstandings, or leave it somewhere close?

I’ve just looked it up on a map. Your nearest large town is probably Rotherham so use that then put an explanation in your listing.
We use what three words after we are booked. Being avid walkers we always want to know if we can walk from the door or have to drive to a hike.

Currently, there are 37 sits in Dubai. 35 of them point to Emirates Hills. No way this is correct. I cannot imagine 35 people making the same mistake. There are a number of listings in Dubai Marina. None of them are mapped.

Hi @anon47943759 - you may be right… my response was from a month ago and feedback from the wider team in response to a particular question back then.

I’ll tag @Lucy-B who will back online later and she’ll be able to check this particular example for you with the wider team and feedback when she gets a response. Thanks for your patience on this. A good time to be getting a sit in Dubai though!!

Newark only makes way more sense for certain parts of Manhattan. For the rest of the city, it’s a long, ridiculous trip to another state.

Strangely, I was just about to ask if anyone else has noticed the sudden influx of sits in Dubai.
